At Logan Health A.L.E.R.T. / EMS Communications Center, we play a critical role in coordinating emergency and non-emergency patient transport and healthcare operations across northwest Montana. Our team supports rapid communication, patient movement, and emergency response coordination for ground and air medical teams while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and exceptional service.
We’re seeking a Communications Specialist to join our fast-paced and mission-driven team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in high-pressure environments, communicates effectively, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team that directly impacts patient care and emergency response operations.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate communication with internal and external customers involved in patient movement and healthcare system operations.
Dispatch and prioritize routine and emergency calls for A.L.E.R.T. and Logan Health EMS Network ground and air medical teams.
Monitor and coordinate transport resources to ensure safe and timely patient transfers and operations.
Utilize communication systems, telephones, radios, dispatch software, and tracking systems in accordance with department protocols.
Maintain operational awareness of transport assets including aircraft and ground vehicles.
Ensure compliance with emergency procedures, notifications, and department communication standards.
Communicate effectively with providers, EMS agencies, healthcare teams, and community partners.
Identify operational concerns and provide recommendations for process improvement when appropriate.
Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy in high-stress and fast-paced situations.
Participate in ongoing training, professional development, and department meetings.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum of one (1) of the following required:
Previous work experience in healthcare
Previous work experience in fire services
Previous work experience in EMS
Previous dispatching experience
Knowledge of customer service principles and commitment to quality service required.
Understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements related to healthcare communications required.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain professionalism in high-stress, high-sensory environments.
Experience working with multifaceted technologies including telephones, computers, and dispatch software preferred.
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional software systems.
Excellent organizational, critical thinking, and prioritization skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in sensitive situations.
Self-motivated with the ability to adapt quickly in dynamic operational environments.

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.
PRN positions (also referred to as Casual, As Needed, or Per Diem) at Logan Health offer flexibility and are designed to provide coverage during busy periods, employee absences, and vacations, making them an excellent opportunity to support the team as needed. PRN employees can participate in a matching 401(k) plan and have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, they may qualify for hourly differential pay for certain shifts or hours, offering extra compensation based on department-specific scheduling needs. Pay rates and scheduling practices may vary by department.
