EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- To assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Texas Educational Aide Certificate
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Exhibit effective working relationships with students, staff and school community.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish
EXPERIENCE:
- None
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Assist in small group pupil instruction and tutor students at teacher's request in either English or Spanish as needed.
- Plan and implement pre-kindergarten physical education instruction based on district provided curriculum.
- Help maintain discipline and other non-instructional functions.
- Record attendance information and related clerical functions with the teacher.
- Collaborate with the teacher to set up classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units.
- Assemble materials for bulletin boards and keep displays current.
- Operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, etc.
- Escort children to and from various rooms.
- Supervise students when teacher is temporarily absent
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Mental Demands:
- Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; writing simple correspondence in English and Spanish. Present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Physical demands/environmental factors:
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 lbs.
- Standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Noise level is usually loud at a standard acceptable level for this
- environment.
