SEO Specialist – Global Wave Group
Location: Albany, Auckland (Office based)
Reports to: Global Marketing Manager
Role Purpose
The SEO Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that our websites are technically optimized for search engines and that our content team is supported with clear, data-driven SEO guidance. This role works closely with SEO writers, developers, and marketing stakeholders to identify opportunities, diagnose technical issues, and implement improvements that drive sustainable organic traffic growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead keyword research to support SEO writers in planning and prioritizing content.
- Build and maintain keyword maps that connect target keywords to specific pages or content clusters.
- Provide clear SEO briefs for writers, including primary/secondary keywords, search intent, and on-page recommendations (e.g., titles, headings, meta descriptions, internal links).
- Diagnose and resolve technical SEO issues, such as indexation, crawl budget, site speed, structured data, canonical tags, hreflang, redirects, and XML sitemaps.
- Regularly audit website health using SEO tools and create simple, action-oriented reports for non-technical stakeholders.
- Monitor search performance (e.g., rankings, clicks, impressions, CTR) for key pages and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure our websites follow SEO best practices for site architecture, internal linking, mobile-friendliness, and Core Web Vitals.
- Work with developers to implement technical fixes, provide clear tickets and test cases, and verify that changes are correctly deployed.
- Collaborate with the broader marketing team on campaigns to ensure landing pages and funnels are search-friendly and technically sound.
- Stay up to date with major search engine updates and communicate relevant changes and risks to the team.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in SEO, with a focus on technical SEO and on-page optimization.
- Solid understanding of how search engines crawl, index, and rank websites.
- Practical experience using key SEO tools (e.g. Google Search Console, Google Analytics/GA4, SEMrush).
- Familiarity with HTML, CSS, basic JavaScript behavior, and how these impact SEO.
- Experience working with CMS platforms (e.g. WordPress) and understanding of how to implement SEO recommendations within them.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate data into clear, simple recommendations.
- Good communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- English reading ability sufficient to use global SEO resources and tools; additional language skills are a plus.
