The Import/Export Compliance Specialist is responsible for validating and maintaining Tariff Codes and Country of Origin validation, assisting, and supporting the Trade Compliance team and Manager to ensure compliance with all EU Customs and other Government Agency requirements and regulations relating to import; as well as EU export requirements and regulations, trade sanctioned country management**, export control compliance, denied/restricted party screening,** and other trade compliance matters related to acquisition project(s). This person will assist our global offices as needed. This person will be working to improve compliance and assist with implementing best business practices related to customs, export controls, and international trade operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor Global Trade Management (GTM) system transactions on hold and take necessary action
  • Assign, validate, and maintain customs tariff classifications (HS / CN / TARIC), ECCN classifications and Country of Origin data for globally traded products
  • Perform Restricted Party Screening (RPSL/DPL) and support export control and sanctions compliance activities, including due diligence reviews and escalations
  • Support daily import/export operations, including review of shipping and customs documentation, customs clearance support, and coordination with customs brokers and freight forwarders
  • Assist with Free Trade Agreement (FTA) validations, End User Agreements, and other import/export compliance documentation requirements
  • Support maintenance and continuous improvement of trade compliance programs, procedures, ERP/GTM data, and internal controls
  • Monitor regulatory changes impacting import/export activities and support implementation of required business process updates
  • Investigate and follow up on shipment delays, customs issues, and documentation discrepancies
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Customer Care, Distribution, Procurement, Service & Repair, Tax & Finance, QA/Regulatory, and Transportation to support trade compliance requirements
  • Support audits, compliance reviews, and other Trade Compliance projects as assigned
  • Minimal travel may be required to meet business needs (estimated 10%)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Import/Export Customs Compliance, with practical knowledge of international trade, customs, and export regulations
  • Proficiency with customs tariff classifications (HS / CN / TARIC), ECCN classifications, and Country of Origin validation
  • Proficiency with EU Dual-Use Regulation, export controls, and sanctions compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Oracle preferred, and Global Trade Management (GTM) systems
  • Working understanding of Restricted Party Screening tools, such as Descartes, Kharon, or Securimate preferred
  • Experience supporting daily import/export operations, customs clearance activities, and shipping/customs documentation review preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strongly preferred but not required: experience in a multinational manufacturing and distribution company, especially within the medical device or pharmaceutical industry
