Job Description

Special Education Teacher � Pathways Program

 

Salary: Per ABEA Contract; Range $58,000 - $105,000
 
Position Summary: 
The Pathways program provides a partial inclusion and/or fully sub-separate model of learning that utilizes intensive Applied
Behavior Analysis (ABA) instruction. The services may include a combination of supported inclusion, discrete trial sessions,
small group activities/learning, and incidental teaching strategies. Students access general education classes with support and the
use of a modified curriculum and individually designed programs. Teacher/student ratios are very low in order to provide small
group and/or individualized instruction. The program is based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and
Positive Behavior Supports with a focus on the use of individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSP) incorporating strategies
including functional communication training and positive reinforcement systems.


All Special Education teachers consult with general education teachers, as well as related service providers and families on a regular basis.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan effective specialized instruction and intervention for students on IEPs within and outside the general education classroom;
  • Administer formal diagnostic assessments and tests for students initially referred and for three-year reevaluations of caseload students;
  • Administer ongoing progress monitoring, strategic monitoring and benchmark systems;
  • Schedule, prepare for, and chair Team meetings for caseload students;
  • Write comprehensive progress reports and IEPs
  • Collaborate with general education and related service staff with respect to appropriate services, accommodations and modifications;
  • Provide ongoing positive communication with parents;
  • Collect and analyze student data against IEP goals
  • Supervise and plan for educational assistants to support students throughout the day

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred;
  • Must have a Massachusetts licensure in Moderate Special Needs through the Department of Elementary & Secondary Education;
  • Must have demonstrated success with and be knowledgeable about current research-based interventions for children with disabilities;
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to develop positive behavior intervention plans;
  • Experience/training in language-based instruction/dyslexia including Wilson, O-G, Brain Frames, EmPOWER Writing, highly desirable;
  • Experience with the administration and interpretation of a wide range of formal and informal diagnostic assessment and evaluation tools;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills required
