We are recruiting a Spacecraft Operations Engineer to join our Copernicus Operations Engineering team, working on-site at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt in support of the CO2M mission. This is a unique opportunity to operate a next-generation Copernicus satellite dedicated to tracking man-made CO₂ and NO₂ emissions from space. Key Responsibilities
Experience & Mission Background
- Several years of hands-on experience in spacecraft operations, with a strong focus on LEO missions across all operational phases
- Demonstrated experience in Operations Preparation (OPS Prep) — developing, validating, and maintaining Flight Operations Procedures (FOPs) and operational baselines
AOCS & Payload
- Good expertise in Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS)
- Hands-on experience with payload instrument operations i.e characterisation, calibration, and performance verification
Ground Segment & Tools
- Proficient in spacecraft simulator operations for procedure validation and training campaigns
- Strong working knowledge of ground segment monitoring and control systems
- Skilled in SCOS-2000, CCSDS and ECSS standards, and file-based operations
Programming & Automation
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and SQL for operational automation, data trending, and performance analysis
- Experience applying scripting to streamline routine operations and support mission analysis
Soft Skills & Communication
- Fluent in English — written and spoken — with strong cross-functional communication skills
- Effective collaborator across spacecraft engineering, mission analysis, and external partner teams
- Proven ability to work independently and within multinational, distributed teams
