POSITION SUMMARY INFORMATION: DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS


Position Overview: In this role, you will oversee the behavioral health program within the detention facility while managing mental health services, clinical operations, staff coordination, and resident behavioral health support activities. You will work closely with healthcare providers, behavioral health personnel, detention leadership, and outside agencies to ensure behavioral health services are delivered safely, effectively, and in compliance with government detention standards, clinical guidelines, and healthcare regulations. This position requires strong leadership abilities, clinical knowledge, organizational skills, and the ability to manage behavioral health operations within a secure detention environment while supporting resident wellness and operational safety.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily behavioral health operations including mental health services, counseling programs, crisis intervention activities, and resident wellness support services.
  • Supervise behavioral health personnel, coordinate staffing assignments, monitor workloads, and support staff development and performance management activities.
  • Ensure behavioral health services comply with government detention standards, clinical protocols, HIPAA requirements, and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Review behavioral health documentation, treatment plans, clinical assessments, incident reports, and operational records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate behavioral health evaluations, referrals, treatment planning, and continuity of care services for residents requiring mental health support.
  • Respond to behavioral health emergencies, crisis situations, suicide prevention concerns, and resident wellness incidents while coordinating appropriate clinical intervention.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, nursing personnel, detention staff, transportation teams, and outside healthcare agencies regarding resident behavioral health needs.
  • Monitor behavioral health program performance, operational efficiency, staffing needs, and compliance activities while implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and operational assessments related to behavioral health services and healthcare operations.
  • Prepare operational reports, staffing summaries, clinical documentation reviews, and program performance updates for facility leadership and healthcare management personnel.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, leadership, and sound clinical judgment while supporting safe, secure, and effective behavioral health operations within the detention facility.


Qualifications:

  • Must be Arizona licensed Psychologist (Ph.D. or PsyD) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (i.e., LCSW/LICSW).
  • Must possess a minimum seven (7) years of post-independent licensure clinical experience and six (6) years administrative supervisory experience
  • Must possess experience managing behavioral health treatment programs and/or leading complex organizations; experience with treatment of SMI population; experience with correctional setting preferred.
  • Must be able to provide proof of citizenship or legal US work authorization.
  • If prior active-duty military, must provide copies of DD214(s) showing discharge condition.
  • Must consent to fingerprinting.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Clean criminal record and ability to pass a comprehensive background check and security screening.
  • Ability to pass a preemployment medical assessment and drug screening.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure and in high-stress situations.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.


Work Environment:

Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.


Physical Requirements:

Employees may be required to remain in a stationary position, stand, push, pull, climb, kneel, crawl, balance, squat, bend, and reach. Employees may be also required to use gear to move items around, including, but not limited to, carts and dollies. Employees may also be occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 49 pounds.
