Job Description
Job Summary: The Occupational Therapist evaluates and executes Occupational Therapy plan of care for patients in order to prevent illness and disability and restore function following and injury or illness. Essential Job Functions Accountabilities: Helps patients reach their maximum functional levels by utilizing techniques to improve physical health, prevocational skills, homemaking skills, activities of daily living, educational, recreational, and social activities. Addresses associated sensorimotor, cognitive and psychosocial components. Participates in professional development and continuing education to ensure compliance with licensure laws. Performs related tasks as needed to insure effective delivery of Occupational Therapy Services. Performs comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations of patients referred by physicians and licensed providers, including assessment of ADL/IADL performance, functional mobility, upper extremity function, cognition, perception, and psychosocial status. Develops and implements evidence-based plans of care consistent with physician orders, patient goals, and payer requirements. Provides skilled interventions including ADL retraining, therapeutic exercise and activity, neuromuscular re-education, cognitive rehabilitation, splinting/orthotic fabrication, adaptive equipment training, and energy conservation techniques. Modifies treatment plans based on patient response, changes in medical status, and progress toward goals. Completes timely, accurate documentation of evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, recertifications, and discharge summaries in the electronic health record per regulatory, payer, and organizational standards. Documents medical necessity and skilled need to support reimbursement (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers). Enters charges accurately and in accordance with CPT coding and billing compliance requirements. Maintains compliance with state practice act, licensure requirements, Joint Commission/DNV standards, CMS Conditions of Participation, and organizational policies. Provides patient, family, and caregiver education and training to support carryover and safe discharge. Supervises certified occupational therapy assistants (COTAs), rehab technicians, and students in accordance with state practice act and accreditation standards. Serves as clinical instructor for OT/OTA students as assigned. Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice.
