American Track, a North American Rail Solutions (NARS) company, is seeking a Director of Railway Flagging to lead and oversee flagging services across the United States. This role is responsible for business development, customer engagement, operational execution, safety performance, training oversight, and financial management. The Director of Railway Flagging ensures all flagging operations are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and NARS operational standards. This position plays a critical role in driving growth, strengthening customer relationships, and maintaining a high-performing workforce across all regions.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development
Lead the acquisition, retention, and expansion of railway flagging services across the United States.
Prepare accurate estimates and develop comprehensive project proposals.
Manage customer pre-qualification processes and ensure compliance with client requirements.
Monitor market conditions and identify strategic opportunities for sustainable growth.
Customer Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers across the United States.
Align services offerings with customer budgets, schedules, and operational needs.
Service as primary point of escalation for customer concerns.
Operational Management, Safety & Training Oversight
Direct the planning, scheduling, and execution of all flagging operations across the United States.
Establish measurable safety objectives and drive continuous improvement through data-based decision making.
Oversee employee auditing programs, proficiency testing, and training compliance.
Lead incident management processes, including Rood Cause Analysis and corrective actions.
Manage and safeguard division assets, equipment, and resources.
Ensure accurate payroll processing and timely job-costing approvals.
Maintain compliance with customer contractual deliverable and internal quality standards.
Oversee invoicing accuracy, timeliness, and documentation requirements.
Conduct regular audits of safety, quality, and financial workflows.
Financial Performance & Reporting
Ensure accurate job costing and proper allocation of expenses to the P&L.
Develop and manage project budgets throughout their lifecycle.
Prepare annual divisional budgets focused on growth and cost control.
Review monthly P&L performance and provide analysis to leadership.
Prepare and deliver monthly financial and operational performance reports.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, engineering, construction management, or related field required.
Work Experience Required:
10+ years of relevant industry experience, including direct management of field operations or railway services.
Demonstrated success leading high-performing teams in a safety-critical environment
Experience managing customer relationships and operational delivery across multiple regions
Prior qualification in RWIC, Operating Rules, and Track Inspection Guidelines
Skills & Knowledge Required:
Strong understanding of railway operations, flagging procedures, and applicable FRA
Proficiency in estimating, bidding, contracting, and project financial management
Advanced computer skills, including MO Suite
Knowledge of safety programs, auditing practices, and incident investigation methodologies
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer-service skills
Proven leadership ability with experience motivating and developing teams
Strong analytical, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
Ability to anticipate stakeholder needs and develop effective solutions
Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Ability to travel across domestically and internationally within North America
Physical Demand:
Ability to frequently work in outdoor environment and all weather conditions, covering large/remote territories.
Nonstandard workweeks, 24/7 on-call availability, and long hours.
Ability to frequently lift 50lbs, occasionally up to 70lbs and handle materials.
Extensive walking on ballast and uneven terrain, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, and crawling.
Ability to operate manual tools, machinery, and hy-rail vehicles.
Must hold valid driver’s license.
