We have an opportunity in our Vonore, TN manufacturing plant for a Machining Production Technician. In this role, you will be an essential part of our production team, operating and monitoring machining and automated equipment to produce high-quality parts. Summary/Purpose
Responsible for operating and monitoring machining and automated manufacturing equipment to produce parts that meet quality, safety, and production requirements. The Production Technician loads components, monitors machine operations, performs inspections, and supports continuous improvement while rotating through multiple machining processes.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Insert components into machines
Operate production machines and equipment: washing, welding, boring, mounting, pressing, drilling, welding, installing and detecting
Operate machines and equipment by using control panel/switches
Utilize the Andon call system if an imperfection/malfunction occurs
Observe machine operations to verify that processing conforms to specifications
Visually inspect parts for damage and defects, such as porosity, roughness or cosmetic imperfections
Read and comprehend work process charts, graphs, blueprints, measuring instruments, and pokayokes.
Rotate throughout various production loops
Replenish or stock parts as necessary
Perform 5S duties including mopping, sweeping, wiping machines, taping floors, and cleaning walkways
Participating in kaizen activities including Quality Circles
Work daily overtime and Saturdays and/or Sundays when directed by immediate supervisor or, as necessary, complete essential duties.
Perform other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and various measuring devices
Ability to locate, comprehend, and apply information that is depicted in written memos, charts, graphs, and other visual representations.
Ability to concentrate on a task over a period without being distracted
Must pay attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and without close supervision within a team environment
Satisfactory completion of Basic Skills/Orientation training within 1 month of employment
Basic knowledge of applicable quality, health, safety, and environmental management systems
The above may be waived by the department Director/Manager and the Human Resources Director if the candidate is otherwise qualified.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Excellent fine motor skills; finger, hand, and wrist dexterity
Ability to utilize both hands, fingers, and wrists or two tools or a combination of such at the same time to efficiently complete tasks at scheduled loops
Ability to walk approximately 6-7 miles over an 8-10 hour day
Ability to stand for duration of shift; perform repetitive motions while walking or standing
Ability to maintain concentration and maintain an A/B rhythm to operate machines to maximize production
Ability to twist, press, turn, assemble, and handle components and/or assembled parts (600 – 750) times per shift
Ability to pinch, reach, grasp, bend, lift, stretch, push, pull, and squat
Ability to visually inspect parts and machines and read instructions, labels
Ability to regularly lift up to 32 pounds
Maintain a minimum of 8 hours worked/day, 5 days/week
