Substitute School Van Driver

Reports To: Coordinator of Transportation

Direction From: Fleet Manager

Salary: $18.50/hr.

Summary: Provides safe and efficient transportation for students on routes as directed

Operates the school van in compliance with all Federal and State DOT requirements.

  • Maintains student order and discipline in accordance with departmental and district guidelines and policies.
  • Performs all pre and post-trip vehicle inspections as set forth in the PA Motor Vehicle Code as stipulated for commercial drivers.
  • Follows routes as directed by the Department Router and Fleet Manager, notifying either of any requested deviations, changes, added or deleted stops, or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains the route book in a complete and legible fashion.
  • Completes monthly mileage logs with accuracy.
  • Houseclean van on a daily basis, including floors, seats, and windows. Ensure that all mirrors are clean and adjusted properly.
  • Communicates in a timely and accurate fashion to the garage staff all necessary vehicle repairs.
  • Attends all in-service training meetings as required by the district and/or department.
  • Maintains professional behavior at all times when dealing with students, parents, school staff, and fellow employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Communicates with school staff via "Conduct Report" on any student behavioral issues as noted on the van or at stops.
  • Assigns student seating as directed by School Principal, Coordinator of Transportation or at discretion, if appropriate.

Accurately documentation of worked time via time clock and/or time sheets. Submits to Drug/Alcohol testing as required by Federal and State DOT.

  • Abides by all district and departmental policies and regulations as written.
  • Installs special needs equipment as required in vehicle, including, but not limited to car seats, booster seats and harnesses.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Education and/or Certification Required:
    High School Diploma or Equivalent
    Experience Needed:
    Pennsylvania Driver's License
    ? Personal driving history accident/violation free for minimum previous three years. No record of DUI or felony while operating a motor vehicle at any time
    ? Criminal record free of convictions as set forth in PA Act 34 and Act 151
    ? Able to pass annual school bus driver's physical as set forth in Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code.
    Requisite Skills:
    Physically able to render aid to students in the event of an accident or emergency
    ? Must be able to read and speak English.

Sedentary:  involves sitting most of the time.  Incumbent should be able to exert up to 10 lbs of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
Light work:  If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the individual sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Medium work:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 50 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
Heavy work:  The incumbent should be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
Very heavy work:  The incumbent should be able to exert in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and in excess of 50 lbs of force frequently, and in excess of 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects.
