Job Description
Assistant Vice President, Finance
TORONTO
Reporting to the SVP, Finance, the AVP Finance is responsible for external financial reporting and analysis. Other key responsibilities include representing the Finance team in projects relating to the expansion of business lines, and improving procedures and creating efficiencies in the department’s processes.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
Implementation of new IFRS accounting standards and Regulatory standards.
Manage compliance with regulatory requirements, including regulatory reporting, tax filings, and internal controls.
Collaborate with SVP and Executive team to provide actionable financial insights.
Provide training and oversight to junior team members.
Collaborate with the accounting software service provider to implement improvements/changes to reports and system functionalities.
Work with external auditors to ensure an efficient and timely year-end audit and interim reviews.
Develop and implement additional controls to improve the accuracy and efficiency of processes.
Continual assessment of Financial reporting processes, and implementation of measures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Assist with banking activities, such as approval of certain payments.
Liaise with the investment manager and investment service providers as required to ensure accurate reporting of investments.
Assist with the annual budgeting process and preparation of the Company’s annual budget.
Collaborate with other Group Finance staff to support overall Company goals and objectives, while responding to inquiries regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business/commerce with an emphasis in Accounting preferred
Proficiency in interpretation and implementation of IFRS standards, especially those relating to the Insurance Sector.
CPA required
10+ years in the accounting and financial reporting area
Must have proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Experience with Netsuite or similar accounting system is an asset.
Experience with system implementation and automation is a definite advantage
