This Office of Major Unusual Incidents and this position are headquartered at the Columbus Developmental Center. If selected for this position, you will occassionally be required to travel to various County Boards of Developmental Disabilities in the Northeast Ohio region. 

Plans, coordinates & implements DODD individual abuse & neglect prevention programs:

  • Defines DODD goals & objectives (i.e. goals related to defining, detecting, prosecuting offenders & reducing numbers of incidents of DODD individuals abuse & neglect).

  • Develops departmental procedures, initiatives & strategies related to systemic responses to abuse, neglect & other Major Unusual Incidents (MUIs).

  • Conducts independent research into abuse& neglect issues & systems of support as well as responding to internal & external inquiries regarding such activities.

  • Prepares analysis & summary of Investigative findings. Triages all incidents for referral to Abuse Registry, Director’s Alerts, trends, & immediate actions for health & safety.

  • Answers Hotline, makes referrals, notifications & completes logs.

  • Reviews incidents in the Incident Tracking System (ITS) to assure that thorough investigations are conducted, and appropriate prevention plans developed.

  • Conduct site visits including: Accreditation and Quality Tier oversight to County Boards of Developmental Disabilities (CBDD) to assure the operation of effective health and safety systems.

  • Develops & implements training programs & curriculum for CBDD personnel (e.g. to educate personnel on investigation allegations of abuse, neglect, & other MUIs; conducts training sessions).

  • Serves as liaison for department & other agencies on issues related to allegations of abuse, neglect & MUIs.

  • Coordinates with CBDD staff, service providers, local police, county prosecution, Children Service agencies & other interested parties to improve systemic responses to such incidents. Responds to constituents’ inquiries.

  • Represents department at various meetings, training conferences & seminars to exchange & communicate state-of-the-art information to resolve concerns & problems which impact on quality-of-life issues for individuals in CBDD & residential settings.

  • develops & provides regional or state-wide training programs to promote state-wide compliance with CBDD programs.

  • Prepares & coordinates responses to inquiries &/or complaints which may arise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of undergraduate core program in one of following fields: mental health & developmental disabilities technology, social work or comparable field (e.g., child & family community services), special education, psychology or rehabilitation.

     

     

    -OR- 

     

     

  • 24 months experience in development & implementation of treatment/ habilitation plans for persons who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled & working as part of interdisciplinary team to assess consumers'/residents' needs & abilities; 

     

     

  • 12 months training or 12 months experience in state & federal regulations, standards & court orders governing care, custody, treatment, programming & environment of consumers/residents in mental health or developmental centers, or regulating drug treatment center operations or federally funded drug abuse services, or governing delivery of psychiatric services in adult correctional institution, or affecting community mental health programs (i.e., category of state & federal regulations, standards & court orders must be linked directly to type of facility & services being provided). 

    -Or 6 months experience as Mental Health Administrator 3, 65223. 

    -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

  • Hourly wage will be paid at step 1, unless otherwise specified by collective bargaining agreement or rules outlined in the ORC/OAC.
  • The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Rule 5123-2-02, “Background Investigations for Employment,” outlines disqualifying offenses that will preclude an applicant from being employed by the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
  • The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.
