Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Test Engineering Manager 2. This position will be located in Roy, UT.

What You Will Get To Do:

Develop customer contractual needs and requirements into test solutions that acknowledges technical schedule and cost constraints. Develop and direct preparation and execution of comprehensive test plans, procedures and schedules. Review and evaluate test requirements for completeness of test program. Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts, Element Test teams, System Test teams, and other stakeholders to identify test objectives, test requirements, and risks that require test to mitigate. Supporting development of instrumentation requirements for Hardware in the Loop testing. Identify test support requirements and coordinate with Design & Integration team for budget and personnel needs. Overseeing test activities in support or requirement verification and validation. Conduct daily briefing and approve test start for each test event. Approve Break of Configuration on the test floor. Conduct tabletop reviews and dry run test procedures with test team prior to execution. Coordinate and conduct Technical and Safety Review Boards, and Test Readiness Reviews. Support customer Test Plan Working Groups. Prepare Test Planning Team charters. Coordinate with Quality organization for test support. Review and approve major test amendments. Utilize excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management. Working well in a team environment, collaborate with multiple engineering teams to define test objectives and requirements for test activities in a hardware in the loop lab.

  • Set a Vision: Develop and communicate a clear vision for shaping, growing, and enabling the Launch Silo IPT to meet and exceed its obligations.

  • Build a High Performing Team: Partner with Functional leadership to build, maintain, and implement mentoring, succession, and development plans.  Develop and execute staffing plans that achieve financial and programmatic strategic goals.

  • Take Ownership: Drive execution across a diverse, multidisciplinary team, meeting cost, schedule, and technical performance metrics.  Communicate progress, challenges, and plans with clarity and conciseness.

  • Lead with Courage: Instill a culture of empowerment and accountability that enables the team to efficiently meet or exceed obligations. Build strong partnering relationships with customers, industry partners, and internal organizations and proliferate this partnership across the Launch Silo IPT.

  • Respond to Challenges with Resilience: Perform proactive risk and opportunity management.  Leverage strong partnerships to navigate setbacks and implement recovery plans that maintain forward momentum. 

  • Act with Speed: Leverage leaders within the Launch Silo IPT to make timely and credible decisions while performing advocacy across a broad stakeholder community to ensure buy-in and mitigate delays. Implement process improvements and strategic initiatives where necessary to maintain and increase execution velocity.

The AVE Test Planning and Execution Manager will report to the Flight Systems Integration and Test Lab Manager. This individual will be responsible for the overall Sentinel Missile lab test planning and execution to include test requirements, test plan development, test execution of all assets and delivery to other elements. To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate must be a driver and leader for collaboration across many different sub-IPT teams for a successful integration test of the missile hardware and software configuration. The candidate must also have familiarity with a lab environment.

In this position, the AVE Test Planning and Test Execution Manager will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Hardware in the Loop Integration and Test – Lead the lab team in the execution of the Hardware in the Loop Testing to validate the functionality of hardware and software configurations. This includes but is not limited to understanding test requirements, development of test plans and procedures and execution and supporting the Integrated Functional Capability test and certification effort

  • System Architecture and Verification Planning - Help support the design and development of requirements verification decisions within the system architecture in coordination with systems engineering and Integrated Product Teams (IPTs)

  • Design Change Impact Assessment - Ensure that approved design changes in hardware and software are compatible with existing components and subsystems, particularly for efforts requiring the support of more than one engineering discipline, through test and integration

  • Requirements-based Testing and TLYF Management - Ensure program master test plans, integration concepts and integration flows developed by the Integrated Operations Team are constructed in a Test Like You Fly manner and verified

  • Data Review Management – Lead the process and review products for formal data review and hold the engineering teams accountable for objective, efficient and timely review of test data

  • Employee Management – Oversee the performance, career progression and mentoring of the engineers on the team. Authority to manage personnel and direct activities required to accomplish the statement of work

  • Schedule and Cost Reporting Management – Accountable for timely cost and schedule status and reporting to upper level management to support program management reviews

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree with 6 years of related experience.

  • Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

  • Demonstrated success leading teams/and or organizations to achieve a common goal

  • Knowledge of system integration and test principles and test plan development at any level of build (unit, sub-system, system, etc.)

  • Experience in integration and test

  • Experience in design, develop, integrate, and test a variety of missile and missile parts

  • Experience supporting US Government contracts and customers and/or project management in other industries.

  • Prior HW/SW integration experience

  • CAM/EVMS Experience

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Agile processes and tools

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a formal lead/management position, leading the performance of tasks against schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either a project lead, integrated program team or cost account manager

  • US Citizenship with an Active Top-Secret Clearance or higher (awarded within the past 6 years) with the ability to receive a Special Access Program (SAP) certification

  • Experience in a formal lead/management position, leading the performance of tasks on schedule, at cost and achieving all requirements as either a project lead, integrated program team or cost account manager

  • Experience coordinating and leading integrated testing activities with multiple test teams

  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in system integration and test principles and processes including developing test plans and procedures

  • Previous ICBM Experience is a plus

  • Flight Test Instrumentation design/development experience

  • Previous Experience standing up a lab environment/Hardware in the Loop test bed

  • Knowledge and experience using CAMEO and/or Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Principles

  • Experience using DOORS Requirements Management Database

  • Experience with developing/leading technologies and integrating them into aerospace vehicle systems for defense applications

  • Experience with aerodynamic performance of missiles and construction of materials

  • Understanding of aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, and control

  • Experience with Agile

Primary Level Salary Range: $126,600.00 - $189,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
