Job Description
Position Summary
The Elementary Behavior Intervention Paraprofessional supports the Elementary Behavior Intervention Teacher in implementing a comprehensive behavior support program. Working under the direct supervision of the Behavior Intervention Teacher and building principal, the paraprofessional assists in providing structured academic and behavioral support to students with targeted behavioral needs. This role focuses on reinforcing positive behavior strategies, supporting instructional delivery, maintaining a safe learning environment, and helping students achieve academic and behavioral success.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher preferred
- Completion of state-required paraprofessional certification (if applicable)
- Experience working with children, preferably in an elementary or middle school setting
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn research-based behavioral strategies and interventions
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Demonstrates belief that all students can succeed and commitment to supporting student growth
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support & Instruction
- Assist the Behavior Intervention Teacher in delivering instructional activities aligned with Georgia standards and district curriculum
- Provide small group and individual support to reinforce academic skills and behavioral expectations
- Support implementation of differentiated instruction and targeted interventions
Behavior Intervention Support
- Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the direction of the certified teacher
- Reinforce positive behavior supports and model appropriate social and behavioral skills
- Assist in monitoring and documenting student behavior and progress toward goals
- Help de-escalate situations using approved strategies and techniques
Data Collection & Documentation
- Collect and record data on student behavior, progress, and IEP goals as directed
- Assist in maintaining accurate and organized records, including daily logs and progress monitoring tools
Classroom & Environment Management
- Supervise students in various settings (classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, transitions) to ensure safety and structure
- Help maintain a positive, structured, and nurturing learning environment
- Assist with classroom organization, preparation of materials, and behavior supports
Collaboration & Communication
- Work collaboratively with the Behavior Intervention Teacher, administrators, and support staff
- Participate in team meetings, when appropriate, to support student success
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in professional development and training related to behavior support and instructional strategies
- Follow all district policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administration
Work Environment
- Requires active engagement with students throughout the day, including standing, walking, and occasional physical assistance
- May involve supporting students during behavioral escalations using trained strategies
- Works in a structured classroom setting focused on behavior intervention and support
