Job Summary
The Fabrication Manager leads a team of Supervisors, Team Leaders, Material Handlers, and Production Associates to ensure products are built safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to quality standards. This role drives productivity and supports company growth by optimizing assembly processes, developing team performance, and fostering continuous improvement. As a Lean Enterprise leader, the Manager analyzes operational workflows, identifies waste, improves safety, reduces costs, enhances product quality, and champions Lean principles.
Duties & Responsibilities
Oversee day‑to‑day Production/Fabrication activities to meet output, quality, and delivery targets.
Assign work, monitor progress, and adjust staffing or workflow as needed.
Ensure equipment is operated safely and efficiently; escalate maintenance needs promptly.
Track production/fabrication metrics such as throughput, scrap, downtime, and labor/resource utilization, maintain accurate reporting by reviewing production sheets for accuracy and completeness.
Responsible for OEE and or Production Efficiencies including data accuracy, must engage Manufacturing Engineering whenever questions arise over routings or cycle times.
Ensures all walk through, safety training, and incident reports are filled out in a timely manner and followed by a root cause investigation with corrective actions that are documented and sustained to prevent recurrence.
Creates a company culture that ensures people, property and products are safe and products quality meets specifications
Increases efficiencies through scheduling improvements and proactively predicting staffing/resource requirements
Responsible for all shift key performance indicators, report these KPI’s as directed in a timely manner. Develop actions based on root cause analysis when targets are not met
Ensures the shift is managed using Lean Principles and promote and implement these principles
Assists with both inventory control and cycle count team on behalf of Production/Fabrication, as needed
Responsible for controlling variable costs within departments including consumable materials, safety supplies, and tooling and equipment.
Work with Manufacturing Engineering on projects relating to plant layout, process modification, NPD, or Safety improvements that deliver capacity and efficiency increases.
Work closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Senior Management on budgets for direct and indirect labor cost, capital investment, or sustainability cost by department.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages Supervisors, Team Leaders, Material Handlers, and Production Associates (typically 10-40 full-time as well as temporary employees).
Supervise, coach, and support production employees across assigned departments.
Responsible for all aspects of employee performance, monitor and provide feedback on employee KPI’s, attendance, performance and adherence to policy. Utilize employee recognition programs to reward positive behavior and coaching/mentoring, corrective actions plan/PIP for negative behaviors.
Responsible for annual reviews of all staff, keeping records of attendance, coaching and both positive and negative performance throughout the year and incorporate in review process.
Partners with Human Resources for effective employee performance management
Foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team culture.
Lead hiring process for assigned areas supporting company goals
Qualifications & Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts (B.S. or B.A.) in business administration, industrial engineering or related major, or equivalent combination of education and experience
3+ years of personnel supervision experience with a strong focus on safety and quality
3-5 years of experience in a production environment using Lean tools is required
Results-oriented, with a focus on developing the skills and talents of employees.
Proactively address challenges, and confidently set and achieve goals
Work both independently and as a team player. Must possess strong interpersonal skills
Collaborate with other departments-HR, Engineering, Maintenance, Fabrication
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to present to senior management.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Physical Demands
Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
Occasionally lift 25-50 lbs
Availability for off-shift support or overtime
Preferred:
Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus
Proficient in using ERP systems; SAP experience is a plus
Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process-improvement experience
