Function positioning
We are seeking a hands-on Analytics Engineer with 2–4 years of experience to design, build, and deliver end-to-end data solutions—from business requirements to dashboards, data models, and underlying pipelines. This role requires a user-first mindset, where development begins at the reporting layer and works backward through the data stack to ensure models and pipelines fully support business needs. The ideal candidate blends analytical thinking with strong data engineering and modelling capabilities, and has a solid understanding of finance systems data, ledger data, subledger data, journal entries, and finance master reference data structures. The role is part of the Finance Team of MBE and reports to the Head of Statutory & Sustainability Reporting, Policies and Projects.
The role includes the following:
Engage with business stakeholders to gather, interpret, and refine reporting requirements.
Design and build intuitive, user-focused Power BI dashboards.
Work backward from reporting needs to define supporting data models, transformations, and pipelines, ensuring traceability from source systems (including financial accounting systems) to reporting outputs.
Develop and maintain robust Power BI data models (semantic layer), applying best practices in star schema design, DAX/measure optimization, and performance tuning.
Interpret and work with financial and accounting datasets (balance sheet and P&L structures, journal entries, general ledger hierarchies, cost centers, accounts, and reconciliation processes) and ensure business logic aligns with financial concepts.
Build and maintain efficient data pipelines using PySpark and SQL/SQL-based transformations on modern data platforms (Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse/SQL endpoints and/or Snowflake), including ingestion, transformation, and validation across layers (Bronze/Silver/Gold or equivalent).
Own testing and validation across the full data lifecycle: verify accuracy from source system to dashboard, reconcile outputs with business users (especially in financial contexts), and maintain high standards for data integrity, consistency, and auditability.
Collaborate with stakeholders, engineering, and IT teams to iterate quickly on insights, translate business and financial requirements into clear technical specifications, and deliver scalable, maintainable data products end-to-end.
In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:
Experience
2–4 years in Data Analytics, BI Engineering, or Data Engineering.
Proven track record delivering end-to-end data solutions (from dashboards through pipelines).
Familiarity with working on financial datasets (preferred but not mandatory).
Required Technical Skills
Strong experience with Power BI (modeling and dashboard development), and SQL.
Hands-on experience with at least one modern data platform: Microsoft Fabric (Lakehouse, SQL endpoints) or Snowflake.
Preferred Technical Skills
Experience with PySpark/Spark data processing and Python for data transformations.
Familiarity with lakehouse architectures, data pipeline design, and performance optimization techniques.
Personal requirements:
Integrity and Responsibility
Balance Risk with Opportunity
Customer Focus
Demonstrate Global Perspective
Professionalism and Teamwork
