Position Overview
The Director of Supply Chain strategically leads procurement, inventory, logistics, warehousing, and distribution activities. This role reports directly to our VP of Operational Support Services and drives critical improvements, including implementation of advanced accounting and supply chain software.
Essential Functions
Lead supply chain strategy, identifying and implementing opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Oversee warehousing, inventory, procurement, logistics, and distribution to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
Direct and mentor a skilled supply chain team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Manage vendor relationships and contracts, ensuring beneficial terms and optimal service levels.
Collaborate closely with finance leaders on budget management and strategic financial planning.
Supplies/Materials Management:
Central Receiving:
Manages the receipt of supplies and materials (reconciling against the PO, examining for accuracy and completeness of received goods and examining for damage)
Manages receipt of critical goods including labeling of received goods for QA quarantine, moving received goods to QA quarantine location, and notifying the Quality Assurance Department of receipt of the goods
When released for use, oversees restocking of supply and materials inventory
Warehouse:
Manages the systemic transfer of inventoried items
Manages and oversees physical inventories of warehouse supplies and goods, reporting into company financial model
Manages the inventory of supplies and materials and distributing the items for use to the proper locations
Manages shelf stock and areas labeled, clean, and organized
For supplies with expiration dates, responsible for using first in, first out (FIFO) system to assure the oldest dated materials are used first
Quarantines all non-conforming goods and returns non-conforming goods to suppliers/vendors or when more appropriate, discards non-conforming goods
Manages the recall and quarantine of all such non-conforming goods that may have been previously distributed for use, and assures that no non-conforming goods remain in use
Manages the T-shirt order process and inventory, assuring that reasonable levels are kept and depleted accordingly
Supplies Delivery:
Oversees the timely delivery of all requisitioned supplies to local departmental storage, satellite offices or point of use
Manages inventory replenishment of blood products and supplies for Regional Hub
Administrative Duties:
Manages timely renewal of company-wide contracts and responsible for electronic repository
Responsible for the purchase of all minor and major equipment and accompanying service contracts
Drafts policies, process descriptions, procedures, and forms to direct and control processes under direct supervision
Assists the VP of Operational Support Services in developing the operational expense budget
Assists Finance department in period close
Manages all standing order renewal and adjustments
Oversees the evaluation of new technologies that may increase staff efficiency or improve the quality of materials activities
Oversees any Supply Chain projects and improvements that are identified and assigned
Personnel-related Responsibilities:
Evaluates personnel requirements for Supply Chain activities
Develops job descriptions for those positions supervised
Interviews applicants for positions
Hires qualified personnel
Evaluates personnel performance in terms of job accountabilities, objective measures, and pre-defined standards
Coaches, counsels, and disciplines personnel as required
Orients and trains personnel and verifies competency
Orients new staff to department and job specific knowledge
Trains staff to meet individual needs, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and the changing needs of the company
Ensures staff competency (sufficient skills and knowledge to perform job)
Assesses competency initially during job task training
Assesses ongoing competency after six months and annually thereafter
Documents all training and competency assessments
Process Improvement:
Performs statistical monitoring of supervised systems to provide tracking and trending of events in order to maintain “in-control” processes
Evaluates existing processes and oversees modifications to improve the overall outcome
Miscellaneous:
Other duties as assigned or required
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related discipline required.
Proven track record of at least 7–10 years leading teams and operations in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, blood banking, or a related regulated environment.
Skilled in successfully implementing advanced ERP, inventory, or supply chain software solutions.
Strategic leader experienced in managing complex supply chain operations.
Exceptional analytical skills and an organized approach to strategic problem-solving.
Effective communicator and negotiator with the ability to collaborate across multiple levels of the organization Ability to work with all levels and in a diverse work environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
