The primary purpose of the position is to safely collect, transport, and deliver inventory and office supplies statewide. The driver will also provide exceptional customer service when interacting with agency personnel, branch offices, and other customers, ensuring positive and professional experience. In addition, the role includes providing administrative support to the Plate Distribution (PD) Unit.

This position may require occasional overnight stays when traveling to the western part of the state, approximately once a month. Work hours may vary, with delivery days beginning as early as 5 a.m., and are subject to change based on the business’ needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safe Driving: Operate a commercial vehicle (box truck, van, etc.) with a CDL A or B license to deliver inventory and general office supplies to License Plate Agencies (LPAs), Online Dealers and Driver's License Offices (DLOs) in a safe, timely manner.
  • Equipment Handling: Use equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other tools to load, unload, and secure materials for delivery.
  • Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service when interacting with agency personnel, branch offices, and other customers, ensuring a positive and professional experience.
  • Inventory Reporting: Record and report inventory, ensuring that all deliveries are accounted for and tracked accurately.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for deliveries, vehicle logs, and any related documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure it is safe working order. Report any maintenance issues promptly to management.
  • Route Planning: Follow established routes and schedules, ensuring timely deliveries and pickups. Adhere to traffic laws and ensure safe driving practices are followed at all times.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety procedures and regulations related to the handling of goods, use of equipment, and driving practices.

Additional Expectations:

  • Ability to lift and move heavy items (up to 5 pounds)
  • Working knowledge of applicable traffic laws and other established regulatory requirements for performance of daily tasks.
  • Position is subject to controlled substances and alcohol testing in accordance with 49 CFR part 40 and 49 CFR part 382.

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Experience in the operation of automatic and manual shift commercial vehicles (box truck, van, etc.), pallet jacks (electric and manual), and hand trucks.
  • Proficient in demonstrating attention to detail maintaining accurate records, reports, and data using Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficient in demonstrating customer service skills, communicating in a clear, positive and professional manner.
  • Proficiency working in inventory/warehouse control systems (experience with STARS is a plus).
  • Possession of a valid Class A or B North Carolina CDL

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements Must possess necessary licenses or certifications to operate assigned types of vehicles or equipment.
