Safeguarding Manager

Amsterdam/Nairobi based

  

Objectives of the position 

The Safeguarding Manager strengthens MSF‑OCA’s ability to prevent, detect, and respond to misconduct by embedding safeguarding into everyday practice across headquarters and field programs. Your goal is to achieve coherence, build trust in reporting systems, and support teams to create safer working and care environments. You will work as part of an international team based in Amsterdam and Nairobi, collaborating closely with colleagues across offices and country programs.

Main responsibilities  

  • Promote a safeguarding culture focused on prevention, detection, reporting, and learning.
  • Review the safeguarding framework to ensure alignment with intersectional and sector standards.
  • Guide country programs in developing and implementing safeguarding strategies and action plans.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to safeguarding staff in the Safeguarding Unit and in country programs.
  • Maintain focal point networks and support communities of practice.
  • Develop prevention tools and frameworks for offices and country programs.
  • Strengthen reporting and response procedures and related trainings.
  • Monitor action plans across all MSF‑OCA missions.
  • Report on trends and risks and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Contribute to learning strategies and define safeguarding learning objectives.
  • Engage with the wider MSF movement to support harmonized safeguarding approaches.

Candidate Profile 

  • MSc in Law, Politics, History, Social Sciences or an area related to this expertise 
  • 7+ years’ experience in management, and safeguarding, protection, or a related area.
  • Deep understanding of safeguarding concepts and best practices, particularly in humanitarian contexts is required.
  • Experience working in high-risk contexts in countries of operation in the humanitarian, health, or development sector is highly desired.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex safeguarding processes.
  • Cross‑cultural competence and ability to work across diverse environments.
  • Fluency in English is mandatory; fluency in French is highly desirable.
  • Alignment with MSF values.

We offer  

  • A Dutch or Kenyan employment contract starting asap based on 40 hours per week.
  • A gross monthly salary in OCA-HQ scale 17
  • 30 days of paid leave (based on full-time contract), a competitive pension plan, holiday allowance, and commuting allowance based on the Dutch compensation package. Conditions for Kenyan contracts may vary.
