About the Position
Under the supervision and guidance of the Practice Supervisor/Manager the Nursing Care Assistant is responsible to provide daily services involving basic care for patients obtaining vital signs, removing dressings, assisting with set up for procedures, and clinical tasks as well as other assigned unit duties. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served. Assumes responsibility and accountability for following established policies and procedures of Reid Health and RHPA.
Overview of Responsibilities
Provide regular and dependable attendance.
Assists clinical team with rooming patient by completing vital signs (no rectal temp) height, weight, removing dressings, and assisting with procedure set up.
Properly identifies patient.
Training and competency assessment are performed initially and at least annually.
Properly identifies patient by checking name and date of birth for positive patient identification.
Responds promptly to needs of providers.
Completes all procedures scheduled during shift without interfering with the quality of work.
Scans pertinent patient information into the EMR.
Independently proceeds with daily routine without delay.
Prioritizes work to achieve maximum efficiency.
Transports patients.
Initiates and maintains records and/or reports.
Assists with performing chart prep for the next day’s scheduled patients.
Initiates work orders.
Records information with accuracy, speed, and proficiency.
Uses computer and software programs with proficiency.
Uses accurate medical terminology.
Follows Code Procedures.
Promptly responds to patient care needs, requests and calls including but not limited to taking massages and calling transports for patient pick up.
Approaches customers when they appear to be dissatisfied or in need of other assistance and immediately facilitate service recovery efforts.
Independently proceeds with daily routine without delay.
Assists in chart abstraction as directed.
Performs inventory of supplies and restocks as necessary.
Assembles equipment and supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures performed by the provider or clinician.
Reports information and observations promptly to the appropriate clinician.
Strict adherence to Infection Control Policy with specific emphasis on hand hygiene.
Shares responsibility for preparation, proper use and care of equipment and supplies and for neatness and cleanliness of the department.
Empties linen hampers.
Assists in answering phones.

Education & Experience
Education Required: High School graduate or GED equivalent
Education Preferred: Certification in the State of Indiana as a CNA
Experience Preferred: Minimum one year in healthcare setting
