Please note: This recruitment may be used to fill multiple vacancies, with various shifts available.
This position will receive a short-staffing temporary pay differential of 4% from July 1st 2025 - June 30th 2026

Colorado Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) at Fitzsimons is a beautiful 180-bed, skilled nursing facility serving Colorado’s veterans. We strive to honor and respect those in our community through companionship and person-centered care while providing a comfortable and safe place to live. At Fitzsimons, we provide long-term care, short-term rehab, and have a secured memory care neighborhood, and are conveniently located on the medical campus with UC Hospital and the Aurora VA Medical Center. Fitzsimons celebrates a low 14% staff turnover rate and substantial longevity among staff.


The House Supervisor position exists to provide supervision and direction to RNs, LPNs, and CNA’s in nursing support positions on assigned shifts to assure the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process in accordance with nursing, division, and nursing home-wide standards. This position, when acting as the on-call facility charge nurse, has ultimate responsibility for maintaining safe, adequate nursing coverage for all or multiple residential neighborhoods in the facility.

Additionally, as a Nurse III, you can expect to: 
  • Supervise and direct subordinate staff in their delivery and provision of patient care. Examples are:   define job expectations, provide feedback in individual and group supervision, assess individual learning needs, and provide staff training
  • Develop performance plans & complete appraisals (PMP)
  • Maintain documentation of various systems, which include, but are not limited to, skin, falls, weight loss, and others
  • Effective communication at all levels which includes physicians, families, residents, peers, subordinates, and supervisors
  • Assumes leadership in crisis situations.  Examples include:  respond immediately to all psychiatric and medical emergencies, i.e., Code Red, accidents, injuries, fires, and all other disasters, notify appropriate personnel of incidents, injuries, file appropriate reports in compliance with regulations, etc
  • Monitor quality improvement at shift and neighborhood level by taking responsibility for the delivery of patient care according to nursing, nursing home, and accreditation standards, compliance with charting by nursing staff (daily and weekly), keep staff informed of changes in nursing home and division policies.
  • Performs and facilitates the completion of nursing assessments and nursing care plans, and provides patient advocacy and confidentiality. Administer medication/treatments
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Special Qualifications:

  • Required to obtain a CPR card and possess and maintain an RN license in good standing

Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:

  • Current, valid licensure as an RN from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

AND

  • Three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position

Substitutions

Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Current, Valid US Driver's License 
  • May have to transport residents in state vehicles
  • Vaccinations as required by state and facility
  • Day, evening, and night shifts to include holidays & weekends as needed
  • Travel: May have to transport residents in state vehicles
  • Required to obtain a CPR card
  • Possess and maintain a Colorado RN license in good standing

  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must:

  1. Disclose that information on the application.

  2. Explain why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify you from the current position.

  3. Provide your employee number from your prior State employment.  Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.


CDHS Selection Process Explanation

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40/hrs per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a prorated basis to determine qualifications. Be sure your application specifically addresses your qualifications, experience, work products, and accomplishments as they relate to the position and minimum requirements.

    • Relevant years of state service experience.

Comparative Analysis Process – Structured Application Review 

After minimum qualification screening, the comparative analysis process will involve reviewing and rating of all the information you submit. The comparative analysis step may also include your results from standardized testing.
