Technology provides the foundation for everything we do in the company while driving differentiation through building and leveraging innovative technology and data insights.

Enterprise Architecture is an organization at American Express. The four pillars of Enterprise Architecture include:

Architecture as Design: this pillar includes the solution and technical design for transformation programs and business critical projects which need architectural guidance and support.

Colleague Enablement: this pillar is focused on colleague development, recognition, training, and enterprise outreach.

The Architecture as Code team is driving a new way of building web experiences for our customers.

We are looking for a forward-thinking Software Engineer who would be responsible for the end-to-end design and delivery for customer value capabilities in US and international markets. You will be hands on in designing the fundamental architecture that powers our web frameworks like content management, search and navigation and web authoring.

What you will be working on

We are looking for a Software Engineer to help design and build a cloud-native Managed File Transform (MFT) platform that enables secure, scalable, and highly resilient file exchange across internal systems and external partners.

In this role, you will develop distributed, event-driven file processing solutions using modern cloud architectures, containerization, and automation. You will play a key role in shaping a secure, high-performance platform that supports large-scale data movement across several applications.

We value engineers who are curious, collaborative, and passionate about building reliable, cloud-native systems that operate at scale.

  • Build and support secure, high-performing Managed File Transfer solutions that enable reliable data exchange across applications, partners, and vendors.
  • Configure, administer, and optimize MFT platforms and supporting infrastructure.
  • Develop automation solutions, reusable integration components, and operational tooling using modern programming languages and APIs.
  • Implement and support file transfer technologies including SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS, AS2, S3, Google Cloud Storage, and Connect:Direct.
  • Partner with engineering, infrastructure, network, security, and product teams to deliver integration capabilities and solve complex challenges.
  • Maintain compliance with security standards, encryption requirements, and data protection controls.
  • Enhance deployment processes through CI/CD automation and engineering standards.
  • Contribute to platform upgrades, performance improvements, and technology adoption initiatives.
  • Produce clear documentation, implementation guides, operational procedures, and support materials.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend practical solutions that improve scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to Agile delivery activities, including planning, design reviews, code reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Share knowledge, mentor team members, and help foster a culture of learning, ownership, and engineering excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering, integration engineering, middleware engineering, or platform engineering with a focus on Managed File Transfer technologies.
  • Strong experience implementing microservice architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
  • Experience implementing encryption technologies (PGP, TLS/SSL).
  • Experience building and integrating RESTful APIs.
  • Strong knowledge on secure file transfer protocols (SFTP, AS2, HTTPS, FTPS, S3, GCP).
  • Experience in large-scale data ingestion and processing pipelines.
