Ballard Power Systems, Inc. is a global leader in fuel cell technology traded on both the NASDAQ and TSX, providing clean‑energy solutions that enable optimized power systems across a wide range of applications.
We have an immediate opportunity for a Facilities Technician – Generalist (Level I) to join our Facilities & Maintenance team in Burnaby, BC. This is an entry‑level, hands‑on role focused on supporting the day‑to‑day operation, upkeep, and general maintenance of our manufacturing and office facilities.
This position is ideal for a reliable, mechanically inclined generalist who enjoys varied work, problem‑solving, and keeping facilities operating smoothly. The successful candidate will support a broad range of basic building, equipment, and site needs—similar to a handyman role—while working alongside experienced maintenance technicians and facility specialists.
No trade certification is required. We are looking for someone dependable, eager to learn, and comfortable helping with “a bit of everything.”

Responsibilities
  • Perform general facilities maintenance and repairs, including:
  • Basic carpentry, drywall patching, painting, and fixture repairs
  • Minor plumbing tasks (leaks, clogs, fixture replacement)
  • Basic mechanical and equipment adjustments
  • Assist with routine inspections and preventative maintenance of building systems and common areas
  • Support upkeep of production, lab, warehouse, and office spaces
  • Assemble, install, or relocate furniture, shelving, benches, and light equipment
  • Respond to facilities service requests and troubleshooting tasks in a timely manner
  • Support contractors and vendors during onsite work (set‑up, escorting, light assistance)
  • Maintain tools, storage areas, and workspaces in a clean and organized manner
  • Assist with safety‑related tasks such as signage, barriers, minor repairs, and housekeeping
  • Support seasonal or ad‑hoc site needs (snow removal coordination, emergency response, event setups)
  • Follow established safety procedures and report hazards or maintenance concerns
Requirements
  • 0–2 years of experience in a facilities, maintenance, handyman, warehouse, or building support role
  • Strong general mechanical aptitude and comfort using basic hand and power tools
  • Ability to perform physical work (lifting, bending, standing, climbing ladders)
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior facilities and maintenance staff
  • Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
  • Basic computer skills for work orders and communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, team‑oriented attitude
Additional Considerations (Assets)
  • Previous handyman, maintenance assistant, warehouse, or trades‑helper experience
  • Exposure to basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or mechanical systems (hands‑on, non‑certified)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, lab, or industrial environment
  • Forklift experience or comfort operating material‑handling equipment (certification not required but considered an asset)
  • Familiarity with workplace safety practices and safe tool use
  • Interest in developing a long‑term career in facilities or maintenance
The typical hiring range for this position is $48,000 -  $60,000.
