The Opportunity
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Construction Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will be a key player in helping expand our construction services for existing clients. The position will have a focus on structural field supervision of bridge replacements and rehabilitations. This opportunity is primarily aligned with Major Works projects for BC Ministry of Highway Transportation and Infrastructure in bridge construction; however, Marine Structural project opportunities may be available as well. The candidate will report to our Kamloops branch; however, candidates based in other locations may be considered depending on their ability to meet project and travel requirements.

What You’ll Be Doing
Maintain inventories of bid item quantities and generate payment authorizations
Provide reporting of work progress and issue construction memos to the Contractor as needed
Provide mentorship and guidance to entry level staff and oversee material testing and surveying operations
Identify field and design issues, facilitate corrective measures, and perform constructability reviews
Liaise with the Contractor, client, and affected stakeholders during construction operations
Lead or assist in the development of construction specifications and contract tender documents
Understand, commit to and fulfill responsibilities under the McElhanney Quality Management System, ISO 9001 and all client quality, safety and environmental management systems
Ensure the team is motivated and on track, project deadlines are met within budget, and quality of work meets or exceeds client expectations.
What You’ll Bring
Experience and Education
Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
Ideally 5+ years of field or construction related experience as an assistant supervisor/inspector.
Experience with highways or bridge construction projects; consulting experience is an asset.
Experience with marine structural construction projects is considered an asset
BC Driver’s License, Class 5 or higher, with a driver’s abstract that demonstrates safe driving behavior and is acceptable to McElhanney.
Skills and Core Competencies
Ability to:
interpret construction, contracts, drawings, and specifications and compare them with construction in progress, detecting faulty materials and workmanship, and suggesting appropriate remedies
foresee potential issues and problems so these items can be addressed and resolved
take initiative and work independently without continuous direction
Develop acceptance/non-acceptance reports and quality assurance checklists for elements of work in sufficient detail to gauge conformance with all significant contractual requirements.
Knowledge of pile, cast-in-place concrete, structural steel, and precast concrete installation
Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel)
Excellent organization and follow-up skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Meticulous note keeping
Work Environment and Conditions
Willingness to commit to construction projects for the duration of the project
Willingness and ability to travel and work provincially and temporarily reside at project sites away from home for a high percentage of time each year. Whenever possible project locations geographically close to home will be selected for supervisors.
Ability to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week (mainly day shifts) to cover the Contractors schedule (regular return to home rotations will be provided, typically timed with the Contractors schedule and statutory long weekends, and/or cross shifting with other supervisors or assistants)

What Can We Offer You?
The salary range for this position is $81,000 - $122,000per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
