Job Description

Permit & Zoning Technician - Braselton, GA

You’ve served the public. You understand how local government works.

Now join a team that values your experience.

At Bureau Veritas, we partner with municipalities across the country to provide trusted permitting, zoning, code compliance, and building safety services that help communities grow responsibly and efficiently.

We are seeking a Permit & Zoning Technician to support our Braselton, GA municipal client. This role is ideal for someone with experience in local government, permitting, planning, zoning, community development, inspections support, or public-facing municipal operations who enjoys helping people, keeping processes organized, and supporting their community behind the scenes.

If you’ve worked in a city hall, planning department, permit counter, clerk’s office, community development department, or municipal administration environment, you already understand the pace, priorities, and public service mindset that make someone successful in this role.

Why Bureau Veritas?

What we do matters.

At Bureau Veritas, our work goes beyond permits and processes. We help communities grow safely, support municipalities with increasing workloads, and provide trusted expertise that helps local governments better serve residents, contractors, and businesses.

We understand municipal environments because many of our team members come directly from them.

That means we value:

  • professionalism and public service
  • collaboration over ego
  • strong communication and customer service
  • organization, follow-through, and reliability
  • people who know how to navigate competing priorities with grace and patience

This role offers the opportunity to continue meaningful public-facing work while gaining the support, resources, flexibility, and career growth opportunities of a nationally respected organization.

At Bureau Veritas, you’ll find:

  • a collaborative and supportive team culture
  • leadership that respects municipal experience
  • opportunities for professional growth and advancement
  • stability backed by a global organization
  • meaningful work that directly impacts growing communities
  • a workplace where relationship-building and customer service matter

We know the best municipal professionals are often the people who quietly keep everything moving. The organizers. The educators. The calm voices at the counter. The people residents trust when they walk in frustrated, confused, overwhelmed, or simply needing someone patient enough to explain the process.

Those are exactly the people we’re looking for.

What You’ll Do

Permitting & Administrative Support

  • Assist residents, contractors, developers, and business owners with permitting and zoning-related questions
  • Process permit applications and related documentation
  • Maintain accurate permit records, files, databases, and tracking systems
  • Coordinate permit intake, routing, approvals, and issuance
  • Support scheduling and coordination related to inspections and permitting activities
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, notices, and other documentation as needed
  • Provide front-line customer service in person, by phone, and electronically

Public Education & Customer Support

A major part of this role involves helping members of the public understand processes that may feel confusing, stressful, or unfamiliar.

You’ll:

  • explain permit procedures, zoning requirements, and application processes in a clear and approachable way
  • assist residents with navigating forms, documentation, and next steps
  • provide patient, compassionate customer service to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels
  • provide additional guidance and reassurance to residents who may be unfamiliar with permitting, zoning, or municipal processes
  • help de-escalate frustration by listening carefully, communicating clearly, and guiding people toward solutions whenever possible

This role requires empathy, patience, professionalism, and the ability to balance policy compliance with excellent public service.

Zoning & Community Development Support

  • Assist with zoning applications, compliance documentation, and related administrative processes
  • Review applications for completeness and compliance with established procedures
  • Help maintain public records and documentation related to zoning and permitting activities
  • Support ordinance reviews, public hearing preparation, and related administrative research
  • Respond professionally and compassionately to questions from the public and project stakeholders

Collaboration & Customer Service

  • Build positive working relationships with municipal staff, contractors, developers, and community members
  • Help create a smooth, organized, and customer-friendly permitting experience
  • Support department operations through strong communication, organization, and follow-through
  • Assist with special projects and additional administrative support as needed

What We’re Looking For

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in permitting, zoning, planning, municipal administration, community development, construction administration, or related public-sector support roles
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfort working with databases, permitting software, Microsoft Office, and digital record systems
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
  • High level of professionalism, initiative, and follow-through

The Ideal Candidate Is Someone Who:

  • genuinely enjoys helping people
  • communicates clearly and patiently
  • remains calm and compassionate during difficult interactions
  • understands the importance of public trust and professionalism
  • can explain complex processes in a way that feels approachable and respectful
  • values both accuracy and empathy

Experience working in municipal government or public-facing community development environments is highly preferred. Familiarity with permitting software and zoning processes is a plus.

Highlights Include

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Generous paid time off program
  • Paid holidays, including a floating diversity holiday
  • Paid parental bonding leave
  • Tuition reimbursement and a culture that actively supports professional development and long-term career growth
  • Opportunities for advancement within a nationally respected organization
  • Employee assistance and wellness programs
  • A collaborative environment where your contributions are valued

Our benefits are designed to support employees both professionally and personally while creating long-term career stability and growth opportunities.

The people who succeed in this role tend to be:

  • calm under pressure
  • highly organized and dependable
  • approachable and community-minded
  • skilled at balancing empathy with professionalism
  • comfortable managing both administrative work and public interaction
