What will you be doing!
- Performing routine and non‑routine preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure the safe and reliable operation of CNL mechanical equipment, including pumps, compressors, precision machining equipment, gearboxes, and hydraulic units.
- Troubleshooting mechanical equipment to maintain safe operation and continuity of production.
- Reading and interpreting drawings, work packages, and reference materials to fully understand job scope and ensure compliance with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL) regulations and applicable codes.
- Documenting maintenance activities and completing comprehensive work packages (e.g., Avantis job cards) to maintain accurate maintenance history for review and audit purposes.
- Constructing, fabricating, installing, modifying, and decommissioning mechanical systems and structures in support of R&D programs and decommissioning activities.
- Maintaining strong housekeeping practices for work areas, tools, and equipment in accordance with provincial, federal, and AECL safety requirements.
- Attending safety meetings, applying Event Free Tools and pre‑job brief requirements, and immediately reporting safety concerns, incidents, and near misses.
- Communicating effectively with customers, co‑workers, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are met and teamwork is maintained.
- Collaborating with other departments and maintaining professionalism while demonstrating a questioning and safety‑focused attitude.
- Assisting with the training, coaching, and mentoring of apprentices and co‑op students by demonstrating safe work practices, monitoring performance, and identifying development needs.
- Participating in and maintaining all required safety and operational training, while taking personal responsibility for keeping skills current.
- Sharing knowledge and learned skills with peers to support continuous improvement.
- Identifying and reporting actual or potential safety hazards and adhering to all workplace safety, WHMIS, and health procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have completed apprenticeship training or equivalent and be qualified as a Millwright with an Interprovincial Red Seal ticket.
- Experience
- Must have 3 years’ experience as a Red Seal Millwright.
- Experience in a wide variety of industrial work environments.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings specific to Millwrights in order to have a thorough understanding of the scope of the job in question.
- Ability to use a wide range of hand and power tools, as well as precision measuring and levelling equipment.
- Written and verbal communication to be able to work in multi-trade groups and communicate with CNL staff across a broad range of disciplines.
- Motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Problem-solving abilities to change installation techniques to on-site working conditions.
- Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, as well as the ability to determine the most appropriate means of proceeding with the work.
- Mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Ability to determine how equipment operates by looking at a diagram or blueprint.
- Good comprehension skills to interpret drawings and code specifications.
- Ability to provide material take-offs and labour estimates.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and weld according to the engineering specifications as outlined.
- Planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and respond with initiative.
- Punctual, dependable and safety-minded.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management is required.
- The ability to understand detailed information is essential.
- Knowledge of internal structural check lists, maintenance records, inspection processes, as well as being familiar with all applicable codes and standards such as CSA 47.1/W59, CSA N285, Z-299 Quality
- Assurance levels and Underwriter’s Laboratory codes, in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
- Knowledge of metallurgy and the effectiveness of the equipment being used.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. Working Conditions:
- Working schedule: We have a compressed work week: Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week, starting at 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- This position is part of the Machinists and Aerospace (IAM) Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
