Position Overview:
This position will work on projects throughout the Media & Communications Department, assisting with the tasks that help promote the events, visitation, and mission of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, including writing content and assisting with social media, marketing, emails, graphic design, website, media relations, photography, and videography. Perfect job for a go-getter who is eager to become well-versed in all aspects of a communications shop.

Position Overview:
This position will work on projects throughout the Media & Communications Department, assisting with the tasks that help promote the events, visitation, and mission of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, including writing content and assisting with social media, marketing, emails, graphic design, website, media relations, photography, and videography. Perfect job for a go-getter who is eager to become well-versed in all aspects of a communications shop.
Essential Duties:
- Draft engaging and quality content for various communications platforms such as the website, social media, emails, and magazine
- Respond to media requests, as needed
- Accompany media on site visits and production; help coordinate interviews as needed
- Manage design requests from around the estate, including assigning projects to staff or freelancers; manage workflow and deadlines; coordinate design project printing and distribution. Assist with design as needed.
- Build and edit web pages in Drupal
- Coordinate Mount Vernon partnerships with the hotel and concierge community
- Monitor Mount Vernon’s social media platforms, as needed
- Monitor the Simple Booth photo dashboard
- Take photos and assist with video filming
- Help curate and metadata tag photos in Media Graph
- Assist with drafting press releases
- Assist with other internal and external communications and public affairs projects, and provide administrative support as needed
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in public relations, communications, promotions, journalism, writing, and/or marketing
- BA degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or a relevant field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience with social media creation
- Experience with producing web content
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Enthusiastic attitude. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to manage multiple projects and produce work under a deadline
- Outstanding attention to detail
- Willingness to learn and assist with a variety of communications platforms
- Interest in American History

This position operates primarily in a professional office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The work environment is generally quiet, with occasional interruptions.
