Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

 

As a member of the Project Team, the MIS Specialist is responsible for designing data collection tools and guidelines, data collection, entry, timely upload and generate reports from project data. The position will closely work with Project Officers and partner focal points supported by the Project Manager under the guidance of Senior Project Manager/project lead, Manager (MEL) and Program Manager-Program Technology and MIS. S/he will support the Senior Management Team (SMT) to update/incorporate program technology, quality assurance, data management, MIS and documentation for evidence generation and research. The MIS Specialist will collaborate with the Manager (MEL) to ensure that Global guidelines and tools are followed and aligned according to the reporting requirements of the MEL team. S/he will lead data-related activities at the project level and support project team and Manager (MEL) in developing required data collection format/tools, introducing those at the partners level and ensure timely using those to collect and manage project data.

 

LOCATION

Based in Dhaka (at least 50% field visit).

 

REPORTING & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The MIS Specialist reports to the Senior Project Manager. S/he will closely work with the Project Manager and coordinate with Program Officers, Manager (MEL), Manager Program Technology and MIS to ensure project deliverables timely. Under the guidance of project team, s/he will support the Senior Management Team (SMT) to incorporate program technology, monitoring, data management, analysis, reporting, evidence generation and research work. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Lead data-related activities at the project level, including sample selection, data collection, entry, validation, analysis, and reporting, in line with the project's baseline and evaluation plan.
  • Support project lead to develop required data collection format/tools, introducing those at the partners level and ensure timely using those to collect and management of project data.
  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of both qualitative and quantitative project data by implementing a robust data quality assurance process, including regular feedback loops and validation checks.
  • Develop and maintain the project’s monitoring and data collection systems in collaboration with the technical MEL team, ensuring consistency with overall program frameworks.
  • Support the project team, implementing partners, and stakeholders in using data tools and monitoring systems effectively.
  • Conduct regular analysis of project monitoring data and share insights and summaries with relevant internal and external stakeholders for timely decision-making.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project-level program management reports (e.g., semi-annual, annual), ensuring data is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Ensure proper use of Orbis’ data management platform (Spectrum) for ongoing monitoring and reporting.
  • Design and carry out small-scale studies, such as case studies, outcome tracking, or mini-impact assessments, and share findings with the project team to guide learning and adaptation.
  • Collaborate with field assessment teams to ensure high-quality collection of both primary and secondary data for needs assessments, evaluations, and other project studies.
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular reflection and learning sessions at the project level, supporting a culture of continuous learning.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices and share them with relevant teams and stakeholders for cross-project learning.
  • Present key findings using clear visualizations and summaries to support evidence-based decision-making.
  • Ensure timely availability of key project data and reports to internal teams and partners.
  • Incorporate learning and feedback from partners and project staff into planning and future implementation cycles.
  • Any other duties assigned by the project lead/Orbis Senior Management.
     

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree and equivalent with Management Information System, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Monitoring and MIS, data management, capable of adapting technologies or similar roles in the reputed I/NGOs or international development context.
  • Experience working with large-scale databases and data visualization tools.
  • Proven experience in preparing reports for donors, senior management, and stakeholders.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of database management and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS, Cobo or similar).
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
  • Excellent understanding of data protection regulations and best practices.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
