ROLE SUMMARY
This position is a combination of client management, project management & Department P&L responsibilities. The Director of Engineering is accountable for ensuring the safe and high-quality execution of multiple projects at one time. This position responsible for overseeing and supporting the Engineering Managers and will report to the VP of Engineering, or another management personnel that the President of the Company may designate. This position is located in the US and/or Canada and working hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00am to 5:00pm or 9:00am to 6:00pm local time. Overtime and weekend working hours may be required as needed. This position is expected to travel up to 10%. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver on customer acquisition targets 
  • Build relationships with key employees among customers 
  • Create plans to address clients’ business needs 
  • Schedule regular meetings with customers to ensure satisfaction 
  • Act as point of contact for complaints and escalate issues as appropriate 
  • Ensure both the company and clients adhere to contract terms 
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. sales, engineers, senior management) to address customers’ needs  
  • Successfully mitigate customer escalations 
  • Plans and coordinates the work of engineering staff. 
  • Oversees engineering staff and ensures that they meet goals and objectives. 
  • Recruits additional engineering staff as needed. 
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. 
  • Provides training and mentoring as needed. 
  • Oversee Program engineering Responsibilities 
  • Develops new products from concept to testing to production. 
  • Lead the engineering team and provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members. 
  • Oversees progress and timeliness of projects. 
  • Reviews project reports to ensure projects are on schedule and within budget. 
  • Performs other related duties as required. 
  • Provide steady and reliable communication. 
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making. 
  • Ensures that departmental decisions such as staffing, development, organization, hardware acquisitions, and facilities are in line with the organization’s business plan and vision. 
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations. 
  • Oversees the preparation and final approval of project plans. 
  • Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company’s engineering and development initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with other department heads to ensure that engineering is aligned with the company’s overall strategy. 
  • Identify potential problems and corrective actions that need to be implemented on current and future work in a timely manner. 

Financial and Operational Management 
  • Department Profit and Loss (P&L) Management 
  • Income projections and forecasting 
  • Workload Management and assignment to meet minimum Team utilization 
  • Expenses Management and approval 
  • Project level P&L management 
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Graduate of University program in Electrical Engineering or equivalent  
  • MBA or Management postgraduate degree/certificate will be considered an asset 
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in power generation & distribution environment preferred 
  • Professional engineering designation preferred
  • PMP or higher industry specialization will be considered an asset 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent managerial and supervisory skills. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Extensive technical knowledge of engineering and product development. 
  • Excellent financial skills and ability to analyze financial data. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
