Job Description
The 4th Power House Engineer will primarily act as the water treatment operator who is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment, silt removal, starch recovery, and all auxiliary and ancillary equipment. In addition, this position will support the 3rd class powerhouse engineer in operation and maintenance of the boiler, refrigeration, utilities, and all their auxiliary and ancillary equipment.
This person reports directly to the Chief Power Engineer and will interacts with all employees in the facility.
- Operation and maintenance of industrial wastewater treatment equipment
- Operation of silt removal and starch recovery systems
- Perform water tests on infeed and effluent water to ensure efficient treatment
- Maintain chemical inventory, including ensuring proper dosing rates during process changes
- Safe handling of treatment chemicals including acidic and caustic solutions
- Coordination of waste removal by contractors
- The worker will actively monitor the DCS computer screens and adjust as required for optimal performance and efficiency.
- Preventative maintenance routines as scheduled including submitting corrective work and project requests
- Maintain logs of equipment operation, testing results, inventories, and deficiencies
- Adherence to sustaining ABSA Power Engineers Act, Boilers and Pressure Vessels Act and all associated boiler and refrigeration regulations.
- Adherence to Lock Out and Tag Out policies, plant PPE requirements, and safe work procedures and precautions.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Valid minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certification
- Able to work 12-hour shifts including nights and weekends
- Able to work with minimal supervision and alone for extended periods
- Willingness to learn
- Work in a safe and efficient manner
- Follow personal hygiene rules
- Have up to date tickets for associated duties of the position
