Job Responsibilities
- Perform fabrication, welding, and repair of steel structures, including hoppers, equipment components, and port installations
- Carry out routine maintenance and reinforcement of metallic structures to ensure durability and reliability.
- Repair cracks, worn parts, and damaged structural components on heavy-duty equipment.
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities on port machinery.
- Inspect welds and finished work to ensure compliance with structural integrity and safety standards.
- Adhere strictly to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures
- Select appropriate welding methods, materials, and equipment for each task.
- Maintain welding tools, equipment, and work areas in good condition.
- Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to minimize downtime and ensure efficient cargo handling

Competence Requirements
- Proficiency in welding techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings
- Strong knowledge of metal properties and welding materials (steel, aluminum, alloys)
- Competence in cutting, shaping, and joining metal components accurately
- Experience with welding equipment setup, calibration, and maintenance
- Understanding of welding codes, standards, and quality control requirements
- Strong focus on workplace safety practices and use of PPE
- Ability to inspect welds and identify defects (cracks, porosity, weak joints)
- Good hand-eye coordination and precision in detailed work
- Physical stamina and ability to work in industrial, outdoor, or high-heat environments

Educational Qualification
|
- O/Level (WAEC / NECO / GCE / NABTEB).
|
|
Vocational Certification
|
- Mandatory possession of Trade Test Certificates (I, II, and III) in Welding and Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering Craft Practice, or an equivalent technical trade.
|
|
Desired Experience
|
- At least five (5) years of active, practical experience as a welder or fabricator. Experience repairing heavy cargo handling assets (like hoppers, cranes, or trailers) within a port, shipping terminal, steel mill, or large logistics environment is a strong advantage.
