Job Requirements (Principal Responsibilities)
- Directs work of professional engineers and Quality specialists engaged in the review and modification of product specifications and analysis of quality variables and indicators. Works closely with global product line organization, R&D, manufacturing and plant engineering to develop new processes and testing procedures that optimize product-based quality, customer satisfaction, environmental compliance and safety.
- Ensures effective resolution of customer problems and quality issues. Promotes open communication with customers via multiple channels, including one-on-one meetings, Quality Improvement Teams, electronic database, and others.
- Develops and manages quality assurance program for plant. Leads on-going review of quality definitions, evaluation and measurement of standards that balance customer current and anticipated needs with Cabot’s capabilities. Through subordinate supervisor, directs activities of plant Quality Laboratory, including in-process and final testing and quality analyses.
- Leads development and execution of process improvement initiatives. Manage the continuous improvement process within the local organization including control and statistical methods. Plan, prepare and monitor departmental budgets and expenditures.
- Oversees MOC technology, including approval of proposed changes in processes and procedures. Ensures consistency of practices, compliance with ISO standards, and compatibility with enterprise-wide system. Validates that all changes have a positive impact on quality, cost, and customer aspects.
- May have additional responsibilities depending on plant organizational structure.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff and establishes goals and objectives. Effectively practice Performance Based Management by coaching and developing employees, direct as well as matrix reports, and assuring effective alignment with the matrix functions.
- Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Behaviors)
- Knowledge of Cabot’s business/product strategies and objectives. Knowledge of Cabot product properties, performance and related specifications. Statistical process control, QA/QC techniques, continuous improvement planning process, ISO theories and practices.
- Knowledge of customer services practices and techniques. Understanding of customer products and business issues. Knowledge of technology and systems supporting enterprise-wide processes, quality-specific data, change management, customer issues, and others.
- Proven leadership skills; ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional partners, customers and external vendors to solve product quality issues. Ability to lead and motivate staff, provide job and career coaching and guidance.
- Ability to anticipate needs, procure and organize resources, set goals and priorities.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor/University Degree in Business, Science or Engineering, and 6-10 years of technical experience in quality in a manufacturing environment, including 3 years of prior management experience.
