Job Description

The Office of Violence Prevention (OVP) is seeking an Associate Director to assist the OVP director with day-to-day operations of the Office. OVP works strategically to reduce community violence using evidence-informed programs including the Life Course Health Unit, Community Healing & Response Network, Violence Intervention & Prevention Initiative, Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence Initiative, and the Capacity Building & Training Institute.

OVP seeks to minimize the use of arrest and incarceration, deliver opportunities and services for people and groups at the highest risk of violence, and strengthen community-police relations. The OVP Associate Director will support strategic partnerships between agencies, nonprofits, and service providers.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Leadership and Strategy

  • Assist the Director in the development and execution of violence prevention policies and
  • Support the implementation of a strategic vision for the Office of Violence Prevention, aligned with the city’s overall public health and safety goals.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of program managers, analysts, and administrative staff.
  • Ensure alignment of OVP’s programs with local, state, and national violence reduction

Program Management

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of violence prevention programs, ensuring high levels of quality and effectiveness.
  • Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of OVP Teams and Intiatives focused on reducing community violence, gun violence, domestic violence, sexual violence, gender-based violence, and youth violence.

Collaboration and Community Engagement

  • Foster strong partnerships with local government agencies, law enforcement, schools, community organizations, faith-based groups, and public health professionals.

Data and Evaluation

  • Lead the development of data collection and analysis strategies to monitor the effectiveness of violence prevention programs.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, including the Mayor’s office, City Council, and community groups, on program outcomes and violence trends.
  • Stay abreast of research, data, and best practices in violence prevention to ensure the office’s programs remain innovative and impactful.

Resource Management and Funding

  • Support the Director in securing funding through grants, local government budgets, and partnerships to sustain and expand OVP programs.
