POSITION SUMMARY
Provide on-site Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) support to ensure effective implementation of the site EHS management system and compliance with corporate standards and applicable regulatory requirements. The role conducts routine EHS inspections, supports incident and near-miss reporting/investigations, coordinates EHS inductions and role-based training, and manages contractor safety processes including risk assessments and Permit-to-Work controls. The position maintains emergency preparedness and fire safety readiness, supports compliant hazardous waste management, and monitors environmental and effluent treatment operations (ETP/STP), including sampling coordination and reporting. The role also maintains EHS documentation and monitoring records, supports internal/external audits and statutory inspections, manages permit/license/NOC compliance and renewals, and promotes a strong safety culture while ensuring adherence to Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support implementation and upkeep of site EHS management systems, procedures and work instructions in line with corporate EHS standards and applicable statutory requirements.
- Conduct routine EHS inspections/rounds across labs, pilot/technical areas, warehouses and utility areas; identify unsafe acts/conditions; raise corrective and preventive actions and track closure.
- Support incident/near-miss reporting and investigations (root cause analysis), maintain records, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate and deliver EHS inductions and role-based training (employees, contractors and visitors); maintain training matrices and records.
- Support contractor safety management: pre-job risk assessment, PTW (hot work, work at height, confined space, electrical isolation/LOTO), toolbox talks, supervision support and compliance verification.
- Maintain emergency preparedness: fire safety equipment readiness (extinguishers, hydrants, alarms), emergency response plans, mock drills, evacuation maps and emergency contact lists; ensure actions from drills are closed.
- Ensure compliance with hazardous waste management.
- Support operation and compliance monitoring of ETP/STP as applicable: daily checks, OMS monitoring, sampling coordination, wastewater analysis records and reporting.
- Maintain environmental monitoring records (ambient monitoring, stack monitoring if applicable) and coordinate with external agencies for sampling/testing; ensure timely submission of reports.
- Support renewals and ongoing compliance for licenses/permits/NOCs relevant to EHS and site operations (as applicable) and maintain compliance calendars.
- Support trade/chemical safety compliance as applicable (SDS availability, chemical inventory, labeling, storage compatibility and spill preparedness).
- Coordinate with Finance/Procurement for EHS-related service orders, invoices, vendor documentation and budget tracking (as assigned).
- Support internal and external audits/inspections (corporate audits, statutory inspections): prepare documentation, accompany auditors/inspectors and support timely closure of findings.
- Promote and reinforce safe work practices and a positive EHS culture through regular engagement with teams and visible field presence.
- Ensure compliance with the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
Academic requirements
Mandatory Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/chemistry/chemical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related discipline.
Any Preferred Certifications (Completed or Pursuing):
- Diploma / Postgraduate Diploma in Industrial Safety / EHS
- NEBOSH IGC (preferred)
- Advanced Diploma in Industrial Safety
Experience
- 3–6 years of hands-on EHS experience in a regulated manufacturing/pharmaceutical/chemical environment; experience in laboratories and/or R&D support environments is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Indian EHS legal requirements (environmental, occupational health & safety and fire safety) and practical experience in documentation and compliance reporting.
- Experience supporting audits/inspections, incident investigations and contractor safety management.
Technical/functional skills
- Good understanding of EHS risk assessment tools (JSA/JHA), HIRA, HAZOP, PSM and basic root-cause analysis methods.
- Working knowledge of waste management (hazardous waste manifesting, vendor coordination, disposal documentation) and environmental monitoring records.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for reporting, dashboards and document control; ability to maintain accurate records and trackers.
- Strong communication skills in English and Hindi/Marathi; ability to influence safe behaviors across levels.
