Description of Work
Please note that all positions close at 12:00 AM on the posted closing date. You must apply by 11:59 PM prior to the posted closing date.Performs technical duties and fieldwork related to the inspection, maintenance, and operation of state-maintained roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure. Work involves assisting higher-level technicians, engineers, and supervisors in a variety of highway maintenance and construction activities.
Performs basic technical inspection work and basic surveying to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and standards for highway construction projects administered by the NCDOT. Work involves on-site inspection, documentation, material testing, and quantity measurements of construction activities to ensure workmanship, materials, and methods comply with state and federal requirements.
Additional Expectations:
Safety toe footwear is needed. Employees will be subject to outside extreme environmental conditions, in addition to hazards at
highway construction sites, including heavy equipment and highway traffic.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Management prefers applicants with the following:
• Data entry experience
• Ability to read and interpret sketches, drawings and written technical documents, such as structure plans and inspection reports, to obtain pertinent structure information
