We are seeking a Director of Software Engineering - Verification to lead quality engineering across a portfolio of connected medical device platforms, including Device Managers, Patient Monitors, and Information Systems & Services (ISS).
In this role, you will shape and scale our PCS2.0 Verification Engineering organization—automation-first, AI-enabled, and deeply embedded in DevOps delivery pipelines—to accelerate innovation while ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance.
This position is in Mounds View, MN. within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) unit. At Medtronic, we bring bold ideas forward with speed and decisiveness to put patients first in everything we do. We are working on-site 4 days per week as part of our commitment to fostering a culture of professional growth and cross-functional collaboration as we work together to engineer the extraordinary. This role will require less than 10% of travel to enhance collaboration and ensure successful completion of projects.

Day in the Life:
In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Director of Software Engineering -Verification role. This includes, but is not limited to the following:
Define the Future of Verification Engineering
• Lead and execute a PCS-wide Verification Engineering strategy aligned to platform modernization, DevOps, and Medtronic quality systems
• Champion automation-first and data-driven approaches aligned to the Software Confidence
Model and DRM practices
• Influence quality strategy across multiple platforms, programs, and global teams
Scale Automation & DevOps Integration
• Own end-to-end verification across system integration, platform validation, APIs, UI, and data layers
• Build and scale automation frameworks embedded in CI/CD pipelines
• Ensure robust validation of functional and non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, scalability, security)
Advance AI-Enabled Verification Engineering
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted testing and quality analytics
• Enable capabilities such as automated test generation, intelligent regression prioritization, and defect prediction
• Ensure responsible, compliant use of AI in a regulated environment
Deliver System & Platform Excellence
• Oversee validation of complex, cloud-connected medical ecosystems (e.g., CareLink/ ISS platforms)
• Ensure interoperability, data integrity, and resilience across interconnected systems
• Elevate platform-level confidence in increasingly distributed architectures
Drive Measurable Outcomes
• Define and improve key metrics including First Pass Yield (FPY), defect escape rates, and automation maturity
• Increase release predictability and reduce cycle time
• Strengthen audit readiness and compliance posture
Lead Through Partnership
• Partner across engineering, product, program, UX/human factors, regulatory, and quality
• Act as a trusted advisor on product quality, release readiness, and platform risk
Build a High-Impact Organization
• Lead and grow a high-performing global Verification Engineering team
• Develop capabilities in automation, cloud validation, and AI-enabled quality practices
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated expertise in:
o Test automation frameworks and CI/CD integration
o Agile, DevOps, and continuous delivery practices
o System and platform-level validation

Qualifications – External
Must Have - Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in science, technology, engineering, or math and minimum of 10 years of technical experience with 7 years of managerial experience OR advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, or math, with 8 years of technical experience with 7 years of managerial experience
Nice to Have
- Experience in regulated environments (medical device, healthcare, or similar)
- Experience with cloud-connected or IoT-based medical platforms
- Experience leading platform-level quality strategies across multiple product lines
- Familiarity with Medtronic Design Reliability Methodology (DRM) and Software Confidence Model
- Experience applying AI/ML to testing, quality analytics, or engineering productivity

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).This position is eligible for an annual long-term incentive plan.The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
