POSITION SPECIFICS
Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics is looking for Head Coach for Women's Rugby (Non-NCAA) to instruct and manage an intercollegiate sports team that is not affiliated with the NCAA; plans and directs training of student athletes; assesses individuals abilities and skill levels to determine best appropriate team position; analyzes opposing team performance and capabilities and determine game strategy; assists players reaching highest athletic potential through training and leadership skills; leads team practices, sporting events, and team development activities; mentors students to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth; purchases and inventories equipment; coordinates visiting team requests; compiles and maintain statistical information; actively recruits and retains top talent; organizes team travel; oversees promotion and fundraising efforts and collaborates with the development office to identify, cultivate and solicit donor prospects.
- Direct, plan, and lead team sport practices, training sessions, competitions, and events; observe player skills and provide instruction for new techniques
- Design coaching strategies which prepare team for competition
- Implement strength and skill training methods to build player capabilities
- Facilitate player cooperation through team enhancement activities
- Direct entire recruiting process, identification, evaluation, recruitment, and retention of top prospective student-athletes
- Establish and enhance the competitive schedule and coordinate team travel
- Maintain compliance with University policies and regulations
- Oversee Booster Clubs to ensure compliance with University, conference, and national governing body rules and regulations
- Establish and enforce rules and code of conduct as well as mentor student-athlete growth
- Collaborate with athletic and university units such as admissions, medical services, academic support, judicial affairs, student-athlete services, facilities, international programs, and compliance offices
- Oversee team promotion and community outreach
- Collaborate with development office to identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit donor prospects
- Schedule, plan, organize and conduct summer sports camps in support of athletics and the University; promote growth of sports camps
- Purchase, manage, inventory, and distribute all gear and equipment
- Manage the operating budget while demonstrating fiscal responsibility and support of cost containment initiatives
- May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management
Requires a Bachelor's degree or higher. World Rugby Level 1 coaching certification required and World Rugby Level 2 coaching certification preferred.

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES
This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. Due to the financial and fiduciary responsibilities of this position, successful completion of a credit history check will be required in addition to standard background checks. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
