Job Description

JOB TITLE:  Diagnostician
DUTY DAYS: 195/205 
PAY GRADE: A01

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
 
To serve as a member of the multidisciplinary evaluation team to conduct evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services; conduct and facilitate ARD meetings in accordance with federal and state procedures and regulations
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 Education/Certification:

  • Certified by SBEC as an Educational Diagnostician

Special Knowledge/ Skills/Experience:

  • Knowledge, practice, and interpretation of common assessment tools used in the determination of special education disability conditions. Knowledge and practice in the areas of academic instruction and strategies, data-based decision making, and legal, ethical, and professional practices. At least one year experience or practicum in a school setting, preferred. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Conduct Full Individual Evaluations as part of the multidisciplinary evaluation team to identify students who may be eligible for special education services
  2. Utilize the District Special Education Software IEP program to keep accurate ARD information on all special education students
  3. Work collaboratively with campus administration and teacher of record to ensure State Assessment requirements are fulfilled and current State Assessment information is available for appropriate personnel
  4. Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop the IEP through the ARD committee process for each student assigned
  5. Facilitate and conduct the ARD committee meetings on a regular basis using the District Special Education Software IEP program
  6. Monitor implementation of the IEP/ARD and support service recommendations
  7. Assist special education teachers in developing appropriate IEPs for their students
  8. Collaborate with Intervention Assistance Teams (IAT) Chair as appropriate
  9. Collaborate, assist, and coordinate:
    • Implementation of effective instructional strategies and modifications
    • Appropriate instructional strategies/activities
    • Use of learning strategies, materials, and equipment
    • With regular education classroom teacher to modify regular curriculum or differentiate instruction
  10. Consult district and outside resource people regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students
  11. Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, team leaders and supervisor
  12. Provide ongoing information to parents regarding Transition services
  13. Maintain a professional relationships with supervisor, team leaders, colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  14. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly
  15. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required
  16. Participation in staff development activities to improve job-related skills
  17. Maintain understanding of and comply with federal, state, district, department and school procedures, regulations, and policies for the special education process
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education or their designee
