The Opportunity: Technical Principal – Ports & Maritime
We are currently seeking a seasoned Technical Principal to join our Ports & Maritime team to help support the technical delivery of port, maritime and coastal structures including sea walls, revetment structures, breakwaters and groynes, beach nourishment, jetties, wharves, pontoons, boat ramps, moorings, intakes and outfalls, dredging and reclamation, terminals and land development services.
This role can be based out of our Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne offices.
As a Technical Principal, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise to generate innovative, economical, and practical solutions that will strengthen the business through project implementation and delivery, research and development and business development.
With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work. You will be a technical authority and spearhead major project deliver across Ports & Maritime.
Suitable applicants will be able to:
- Build SMEC's brand globally & regionally as a leading consultant with a strong reputation for innovation, technical excellence, quality and project delivery
- Assist the Regions to achieve sustainable growth of the group through targeted client relationship management and business development activity
- When required, provide project governance, at project director level, of project management in the group to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness and quality
- Supporting regional management to provide technical leadership to employees to ensure cohesion, optimal performance, resourcing, retention and professional development of technical staff
Suitable applicants will demonstrate:
- 20+ years of experience in the Ports & Maritime industry or similar sector
- Provide technical governance to both proposals and projects to achieve reliable project performance in terms of sophistication, timeliness and quality
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong strategic planning and commercial acumen
- Co-ordinated, designed and delivered major projects – with proven success
- Demonstrated ability to actively manage and drive performance in diverse teams
