Your Impact
- Provide strategic and operational security leadership for the underground project, ensuring effective protection of people, assets, infrastructure and production processes.
- This role will support the safe development and operation of underground mining activities through proactive risk management, integration of physical and technical security, and alignment with Newmont standards and the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights.
As Part of Our Team, You Will:
Underground Security Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement a fit-for-purpose underground security plan aligned with project lifecycle (construction → development → production).
- Conduct threat and risk assessments specific to underground operations (restricted access points, ventilation shafts, explosives handling, confined spaces).
- Integrate security requirements into mine design, access points, and infrastructure layout.
Operational Security Management
- Ensure 24/7 protection of underground infrastructure including portals, declines and critical production areas.
- Oversee access control systems for personnel, contractors, and materials entering underground operations.
- Manage deployment of security personnel and response teams for underground and surface interface areas.
- Coordinate emergency response for underground security incidents ( intrusion, sabotage, illegal entry).
Physical & Technical Security Systems
- Design and implement integrated security systems (IESS) including:
- CCTV surveillance.
- Access control systems.
- Intrusion detection systems.
- Personnel and vehicle tracking.
- Ensure systems are aligned with site-wide security control center operations.
Risk, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Newmont security standards.
- Ghana Minerals Commission requirements.
- Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights
- Lead security audits, inspections, and assurance activities for underground operations.
- Develop and monitor security KPIs aligned with site and project objectives.
Incident Management & Intelligence
- Lead investigations of:
- Security breaches.
- Theft, sabotage, illegal mining attempts.
- Insider threats.
- Develop intelligence networks to proactively identify emerging threats (e.g., illegal mining, organized intrusion).
Stakeholder & Contractor Management
- Coordinate with:
- Underground operations team.
- Engineering and project teams.
- Security contractors and government security agencies (Police/Military).
- Ensure contractor security teams meet performance, training, and compliance standards.
Training & Capability Development
- Develop and deliver underground-specific security training programs.
- Build capability in:
- Emergency response.
- Confined space security.
- Critical asset protection.
Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Security Management, Risk Management, Criminology, or related field.
Professional Certification (Mandatory):
- PSP (Physical Security Professional).
- Security Management Certificate OR ISO Security Certification (e.g., ISO 28000 / ISO 18788).
Experience
- Minimum of 2–5 years’ working experience in security management.
- At least 5 years in mining or high-risk industrial environment (preferably underground operations).
- Proven experience in:
- Critical infrastructure protection.
- Security risk management.
- Security systems (CCTV, access control).
Skills and Abilities
- Strategic thinking and risk-based decision making.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement.
- Incident command and crisis management.
- Technical understanding of integrated security systems.
- High integrity and alignment with safety and human rights principles.

This position is located at the Ahafo South (SUG) mine site.
