Position Title: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

 

Department: Special Services

 

Reports To: Chief Academic Officer

 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two year degree, 60 hours of credit from an accredited institution or passing scores on the RBT exam.
  • Must hold and maintain current certification as a Registered Behavior Technician

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have current government issued identification

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

8 Hours/190 Days

Support Staff Salary Schedule (Grade 12)

 

The terms of employment detailed in this job description are based on full time employment during the school year. Conditions of employment adjusted for part time employees or individuals who are hired for less than an entire school year.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of a behavior analyst, is responsible for providing behavioral therapy to students with autism. The RBT implements the ABA behavior therapy programs and collects data for students who receive ABA services.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of Lexington County School District One towards increased outcomes for students.
  • Interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders effectively.
  • Establishes a safe, supportive, positive and productive working and learning environment.
  • Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information.
  • Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials.
  • Interacts, communicates, and collaborates with classroom staff under the supervision of a behavior analyst.
  • Demonstrates awareness and understanding of applied behavior analysis as required for successful job performance.
  • Identifies methods for improving the quality of service and job activities and reports findings to the supervising behavior analyst.
  • Establishes & maintains therapeutic relationship by pairing self as a reinforcer and uses ABA techniques to facilitate transfer of instructional control to other team members.
  • Teaches safe and socially acceptable replacement behaviors as outlined in behavior intervention programs created by the behavior analyst in order to build a repertoire of communication, social interaction, and problem solving skills.
  • Fades prompts appropriately to promote both successful and independent responding.
  • Increases the frequency or duration of safe and appropriate replacement behaviors by providing access to reinforcers (desired items/actions, attention, or removal of demands/aversive situations).
  • Accurately collects behavior data including: ABC, frequency, duration, latency, interresponse time, and interval based recording.
  • Follows the treatment plan goals and interventions utilizing sound judgment and seeks out appropriate consultation with the behavior analysts.
  • Collaborates with the behavior analyst to provide effective treatment and cooperates with those team members to adapt procedures and expectations appropriately to the environment and the learner.
  • Collaborates with team members to implement interventions effectively without disrupting the learning of the student receiving services or the other students in the environment.
  • Educates all those involved about the role of the RBT in implementing behavior analytic interventions and functions within boundaries of the RBT role in providing treatment.
  • Gathers and prepares materials needed to implement targeted behavior goals/objectives as directed by the behavior analyst.
  • Provides intensive teaching using ABA methodology during therapy sessions.
  • Directly implements and models for others intensive, evidence-based behavior change techniques including but not limited to: functional communication training, discrete trial training; natural environment teaching; error correction; errorless teaching; positive, negative, and differential reinforcement according to prescribed schedules; shaping; generalization; chaining; and identifying and following motivating operations.
  • Submits session data in a timely fashion using district-provided technology and software.
  • Under the direction of a behavior analyst, provides behavioral support and crisis management when needed which may include the use of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and/or Ukeru. Maintains professionalism in word and demeanor throughout and following such events.
  • Interacts and communicates with other professionals in an effort to best meet the needs of a student or students.
  • Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of pertinent information and communication as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervision of students. No direct budgetary responsibilities required.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies. Must be able to access reliable transportation.

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of school policies, procedures, and operations. Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities. Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in exercising duties. Ability to anticipate work to be completed and to complete work without the need for direct supervision. Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student records and information. Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, teachers, students, and the general public.   

Personal computer experience required. Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory. Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines. Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group. Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. Some extended hours and multiple demands from several people are frequently required of the employee. Computer literacy required. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical demands may include full physical prompting of students, running to block severe maladaptive behavior, or moving classroom furniture up to 75 pounds. Physical demands may also include implementing Ukeru and/or CPI strategies to de-escalate students and maintain safety for all parties involved. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as furniture or boxes of materials.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision. Occasionally the position requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Conducts duties in a classroom, therapy room, office, or other locations around a school as appropriate to meet the needs of the students. Requires ability to give constant attention to duties required for working with students with disabilities and assisting staff during a crisis period. Travel may be required to serve students at different schools.

The noise level in the work environment for this position varies. The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day.
