Sr. Software Development Engineer, AWS Transform
Job Description
The problems here are novel, sitting right where AI meets code modernization at scale. You'll build an agent that learns transformation patterns from documentation and code samples, executes them autonomously across entire codebases, and gets better through continual feedback. All of this has to meet AWS's exacting standards for scale, reliability, and security. The team around you is exceptional, and the learning curve is steep in the best way.
You'll see your work in production fast. Features you ship will directly accelerate how organizations modernize, turning months-long migration projects into days. Code reviews, mentorship in both directions, and rapid skill development are part of the daily rhythm. Opportunities to lead are there from day one: owning projects, defining technical direction, shaping how the team operates.
This is your chance to build the agent that modernizes the world's software.
Key job responsibilities
Technical direction and architecture of AWS Transform Custom's agentic system start with you. Working directly with customers, you'll dig into real-world modernization challenges like version upgrades, runtime migrations, language translations, and architectural decompositions, then translate them into product capabilities. Amazon's customer-obsessed approach drives everything here. You'll also build and operate production systems using industry-leading CI/CD practices, keeping Transform Custom reliable and performant.
The work spans the full lifecycle. On one end, you're designing how the agent learns transformation patterns through natural language and code samples. On the other, you're building the execution engine that applies those transformations autonomously across hundreds of applications. The feedback loop makes the agent smarter after every run. Innovation matters, but so does operational excellence. Every technical choice needs to enable transformations that work consistently across hundreds of repos while meeting AWS's standards for scale and security.

We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects that help you develop your engineering expertise, so you feel empowered to take on more complex tasks in the future.
The future of software modernization is autonomous. AWS is building Transform Custom, an agentic AI system that independently learns your organization's transformation patterns, executes them across hundreds
