We are seeking a talented and motivated 2L law school student to join our commercial construction firm as an Intern. This internship opportunity will provide valuable hands-on experience in the legal aspects of the commercial construction industry. As an Intern, you will work closely with our legal team, gaining exposure to various legal processes and procedures related to commercial construction projects. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop practical skills, expand your knowledge in construction law, and contribute to real-world projects.
Responsibilities:
- Legal Research: Conduct thorough legal research on construction laws, regulations, and relevant case precedents to support the legal team in various commercial construction matters.
- Document Preparation: Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including contracts, agreements, permits, and other construction-related legal documents.
- Contract Management: Aid in the management and organization of contracts, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and industry standards.
- Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence activities, including reviewing project documents, permits, and licenses, to identify any potential legal risks and provide recommendations.
- Compliance Assistance: Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and building codes applicable to commercial construction projects.
- Communication and Coordination: Collaborate with internal teams, including project managers, engineers, and contractors, to gather information and provide legal guidance on construction-related matters.
- Legal Support: Provide general support to the legal team, which may include administrative tasks, preparing meeting agendas, and maintaining legal databases and files.
- Stay Updated: Stay informed about industry trends, changes in construction laws, and legal developments that may impact commercial construction projects.
Requirements:
- Education: Currently enrolled as a 2L law school student, pursuing a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with construction law, contracts, and legal principles relevant to the commercial construction industry is preferred.
- Research Skills: Strong legal research and analytical skills to identify and interpret legal statutes, regulations, and case law.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex legal concepts and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to review and analyze legal documents and contracts for accuracy and completeness.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively. Initiative:
- Self-motivated and proactive approach to work, with the ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and work independently when required.
- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, contributing to the overall success of the legal department and commercial construction projects.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and legal research databases.
