About the Role
The Automation Operations Team Lead will be responsible for owning, managing, improving, and scaling all automation initiatives within the Operations department. This role requires someone who can fully immerse themselves in the day-to-day realities of Operations while also thinking holistically from a director-level perspective.

The ideal candidate will understand each operational vertical, identify automation opportunities, prioritize business-critical needs, and guide the automation team to deliver solutions that directly improve efficiency, accuracy, visibility, cost control, and operational performance.
This is a high-sensitivity business role. The person in this position will not simply manage tasks or tools. They will own the automation ecosystem across Operations, ensure automations are aligned with business priorities, and work closely with Finance where operational automation impacts cost, reporting, reconciliation, billing, budgeting, or financial controls.

What You Will Do

  • Own and oversee all Operations automations across departments, ensuring they are documented, monitored, scalable, reliable, auditable, and continuously improved while proactively identifying risks, gaps, and failure points.
  • Develop a deep understanding of operational workflows, KPIs, dependencies, and pain points by working closely with teams to translate real business challenges into effective automation solutions.
  • Drive automation strategy from a leadership perspective by prioritizing initiatives based on business impact, operational efficiency, compliance, cost savings, scalability, and customer experience.
  • Lead and manage the Automation Operations team by setting priorities, assigning workloads, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining high standards for execution, testing, documentation, and post-launch support.
  • Partner closely with Finance and Operations teams to automate billing, reconciliation, reporting, approvals, and financial controls while ensuring data accuracy, governance, and traceability.
  • Establish and manage automation governance processes, including roadmap planning, intake and prioritization frameworks, ownership structures, success metrics, monitoring, and escalation procedures.
  • Identify and improve inefficient or manual operational processes before automation, driving workflow standardization, scalability, long-term sustainability, and operational control across teams.
  • Act as the operational owner of key business systems and tools including BI dashboards, ERP platforms, ShipHero, and other operational technologies, ensuring they are optimized, integrated, and aligned with business needs while managing stakeholder communication across technical and non-technical teams.

Who You Are

  • Strong understanding of operations management, workflows, KPIs, process dependencies, and the ability to connect automation initiatives to measurable business outcomes.
  • Ability to think strategically at both operational and leadership levels, balancing day-to-day execution with long-term business scalability and efficiency.
  • Proven leadership experience managing or guiding teams focused on automation, systems, analytics, business process improvement, or operational transformation.
  • Strong ownership mindset with the ability to prioritize multiple automation initiatives, manage competing demands, and perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
  • Deep knowledge of workflow automation, process mapping, system integrations, reporting structures, operational controls, and automation governance best practices.
  • Ability to assess operational processes critically and determine whether they should be automated, redesigned, optimized, standardized, or maintained manually.
  • Experience managing automation backlogs, implementation roadmaps, testing processes, documentation standards, change management, and post-launch operational support.
  • Strong understanding of finance-adjacent operational processes including reconciliation, billing, approvals, cost reporting, forecasting, budget tracking, and financial data governance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into business language, challenge unclear requirements, and build strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-impact automation or process improvement initiatives within complex or scaling business environments, particularly in areas where accuracy, continuity, and operational reliability are business-critical.
