JOB SCOPE:
The Custodial Assistant supports the daily operations of the facility by ensuring that all workspaces remain clean, safe, and fully functional. This position performs routine and detailed cleaning of offices, restrooms, breakrooms, locker rooms, and common areas, as well as providing general facility support. The Custodial Assistant contributes to a well‑maintained, orderly, and welcoming environment for employees and visitors while assisting the Office Manager and facility staff as needed.

Schedule: Monday - Friday - (Must be available to work weekends if needed)
Schedule Hours: 8am - 4:30pm (Must be flexible with the start time as it may change)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform routine cleaning of offices, restrooms, breakrooms, locker rooms, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize surfaces throughout the facility
- Empty trash and recycling bins and ensure proper waste disposal
- Restock supplies such as paper products, soap, sanitizer, and cleaning materials
- Clean and disinfect breakroom appliances, microwaves, refrigerators, tables, and counters
- Clean interior door windows and sanitize doors, handles, and high‑touch surfaces
- Maintain cleanliness of entryways, sidewalks, outdoor steps, and exterior building areas
- Clean and maintain locker rooms daily
- Perform scheduled deep‑cleaning tasks (carpet extraction, floor waxing, upholstery cleaning)
- Clean vents, baseboards, walls, ceiling fixtures, and window ledges
- Wash and disinfect trash receptacles
- Clean display cases and maintain cleanliness of the lodge
- Operate custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and carpet extractors
- Assist with minor maintenance tasks (changing light bulbs, reporting facility issues)
- Set up and break down rooms for meetings, events, or special functions
- Maintain and organize custodial closets and supply storage areas
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify Office Manager when restocking is needed
- Support special projects, seasonal cleaning, and office moves
- Report spills, hazards, or unsafe conditions immediately
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the Office Manager and facility operations
- Maintain the master housekeeping schedule
ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Dust shelves, locker tops, and window ledges,
- Clean & maintain the lodge
- Clean Display cases
- Wash & disinfect trash receptacles
- Clean & dust
- Window cleaning inside & outside
- Maintain cleanliness of entryways, sidewalks, and outdoor steps
- Communicate maintenance needs or facility issues promptly to the Office Manager
- Coordinate with other departments to minimize disruption during cleaning
- Perform basic upkeep of custodial equipment (emptying vacuum bags, cleaning filters)
- Operate floorcare equipment safely and according to training
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXEMPTION STATUS:
- No supervisory responsibilities
- Non‑exempt position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Understanding of custodial practices, cleaning techniques, and sanitation standards
- Familiarity with safe handling, labeling, and storage of cleaning chemicals
- Ability to operate custodial equipment and basic hand tools
- Strong organization, flexibility, and multitasking abilities
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Awareness of proper waste disposal and recycling procedures
- Reliable follow‑through and consistency in completing daily tasks
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, special projects, or urgent facility needs
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Experience in custodial, janitorial, or facility support preferred
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Basic understanding of cleaning practices, tools, and equipment
- Strong time‑management skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Good communication skills and a positive, service‑oriented attitude.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed both indoors in an office environment and outdoors or within the plant, near operating equipment, where conditions may include cold, heat, dust, and areas with loose airborne particles.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 10 pounds routinely (higher weights optional if needed)
- Manual dexterity for handling tools, equipment, and cleaning tasks
- Ability to climb ladders or step stools to clean elevated surfaces
- Must be able to work with cleaning chemicals safely
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
Work performed in this job requires employees to wear the following PPE as required. PPE is provided to employees by Diamond Pet Foods Other PPE is required based upon the task being completed. Employees must always wear the proper personal protective equipment for the task.
- Bump cap or hard hat
- Ear plugs
- Safety glasses
- Work boots
- Additional PPE may be required depending on specific tasks
