LOCATION: Ekuk
PURPOSE OF THE JOB: As an EMT I, contractor representing BBAHC CHAP Department: The purpose of the job is to provide efficient and immediate emergency care to the critically ill and injured within the limits and training of a licensed EMT I. Providing quality effective emergency care management, prepares for emergency transport to ordering facility, and delivering adequate patient transfer information to transferring facility Physician. Dates will be outlined in contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be high school graduate or have GED certificate or equivalent.
- Required current EMT In certificate and BLS card from the State of Alaska.
- Must be licensed within the State of Alaska EMS.
- At least 2 (two) years’ experience in providing EMT I or equivalent services.
- Dependable and maintains patient confidentiality.
- Must successfully pass the pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Able to provide 24-hour emergency coverage in assigned community for full contract time.
- Able to perform the physical demands of the job.
- Must be able to meet physical requirements of responding and provide emergency care all hours of the day and night to all patients, includes travel by air, four-wheeler, and skiff/boat by water.
- Ability to adapt to cultural aspects of rural Alaska, and prolonged village conditions.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Essential Functions
- Respond to emergencies within EMT I scope of practice.
- Provide basic life support and stabilize patients for transport.
- Coordinate with physicians and prepare for medevac as needed.
- Complete timely, accurate documentation.
- Maintain equipment and supplies.
- Work collaboratively with staff and first responders.
- Ensure respectful care, confidentiality, and compliance.
Working Conditions
- On-call 24/7 for contract duration; remote fish camp assignment.
- Frequent travel in small aircraft, boats, and ATVs.
- Physical work including lifting up to 100+ lbs.
- Exposure to weather, hazards, and infectious materials.
- Regular communication with physicians and community interaction.
