Assistant Chief Engineer – JLL
What this job involves:
The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining a prestigious downtown NYC office building, working alongside the Chief Engineer to ensure seamless operations of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. This customer-facing position combines technical expertise with leadership responsibilities—you'll oversee inspections, maintenance operations, and team development while independently performing repairs and system upgrades. As a key member of our facilities team, you'll ensure building systems operate at peak performance, mentor team members, and deliver exceptional service that contributes to JLL's reputation for operational excellence in high-profile commercial properties.
What your day-to-day will look like:
• Supervise operation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, ensuring compliance with Service Level Agreements and Key Performance Indicators
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on facility systems including HVAC equipment (compressors, chillers, cooling towers), plumbing components, and electrical systems
• Manage CMMS work order system (MAXIMO preferred) to ensure timely completion of maintenance assignments and accurate documentation
• Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS), respond to alarms, analyze system operations, diagnose problems, and implement corrective measures
• Conduct facility rounds to inspect building conditions, identify safety hazards, and report issues affecting occupancy and operations
• Mentor and train team members in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related technical skills while demonstrating proper tool usage and maintenance procedures
• Support the Chief Engineer in implementing safety policies and procedures with meticulous attention to detail, maintaining professionalism under stressful situations
Required Qualifications:
• Associate's degree or equivalent with 4-6+ years of high-tech industry and/or facilities management experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical processes and troubleshooting (chillers, boilers, cooling towers, air conditioning, pumps, generators, UPS systems)
• Experience with CMMS/work order platforms; MAXIMO experience strongly preferred
• Ability to solve highly complex problems requiring analysis, considerable judgment, and rational decision-making
• Strong customer service skills with ability to maintain professionalism under stressful situations
• Excellent presentation and communication skills for client-facing interactions
• Availability to provide after-hours support as required
Preferred Qualifications:
• Proficiency in PowerPoint, MS Office Suite, Visio, and/or CAD software
• Experience in high-rise commercial office building environments
• NYC-specific certifications or licenses (e.g., Fire Safety Director, Certificate of Fitness)
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience • Knowledge of building codes and regulations specific to New York City
• Experience working in LEED-certified or high-performance buildings
Location: New York City, NY
Work Shift: 8 Hour Day - 2nd Shift

Estimated compensation for this position:
117,000.00 – 130,000.00 USD per yearThis range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
