This senior Foundation leader is responsible for shaping and advancing a best-in-class donor experience across Intermountain Health. Reporting to the system Chief Development Officer and Foundation President, this role serves on the Foundation Leadership Team and leads the strategy, execution, evaluation, and continuous improvement of Foundation communications, donor stewardship and engagement, and philanthropic marketing. This role serves as the strategic owner of donor-facing communications and storytelling, setting clear direction and standards, and narrative priorities that strengthen trust, connection, and long-term philanthropic investment.The leader will strengthen how the Intermountain Foundation communicates its purpose, priorities, and impact to donors, prospects, caregivers, and key stakeholders. The Vice President will ensure that donor-facing communications and engagement strategies are mission-centered, relationship-driven, and aligned with the Foundation’s goals for donor retention, growth, and long-term philanthropy.
Essential Functions
This position has enterprise-level influence across the Foundation’s donor engagement, stewardship, and philanthropic communications functions and plays a central role in strengthening how the Foundation builds trust, demonstrates impact, and deepens donor connection.
This role:
- Reports directly to the Chief Development Officer and Foundation President
- Serves as a member of the Foundation Leadership Team
- Directly leads the Foundation’s Donor Relations and Stewardship and Philanthropy Campaign Communications functions
- Directly manages a team of approximately 18 caregivers
- Works collaboratively across Foundation, system, clinical, and executive teams to align donor engagement and communications with strategic priorities
- Requires occasional travel as needed to support donor engagement, leadership responsibilities, and Foundation priorities.
Skills
1. Philanthropy Communications and Marketing
- Develop and lead the Foundation’s philanthropic communications and marketing strategy, with accountability for donor-facing narrative, messaging priorities, and communication standards, with a focus on inspiring generosity, deepening donor engagement, and increasing visibility of the Foundation’s impact
- Oversee the development of compelling, multi-channel donor communications and storytelling, including executive and donor correspondence, impact reports, stewardship materials, proposals, presentations, campaign messaging and communications, digital content, videos, publications, web content, and other donor-facing materials
- Ensure all communications are accurate, compelling, mission-aligned, and reflective of Intermountain’s brand, values, and strategic priorities
- Serve as a steward of the Foundation’s voice, story, and impact narrative, ensuring donor communications are warm and clear, aligned with Intermountain’s brand principles, and consistent across campaigns, regions, and donor audiences.
- Further sophisticate the ways and channels through which the Foundation engages its stakeholders.
2. Strategic Leadership for Donor Experience and Engagement
- Develop and lead an enterprise donor experience and engagement strategy that strengthens donor connection, confidence, retention, and long-term philanthropic investment
- Partner with the Chief Development Officer and Foundation President to align donor engagement, stewardship, and communications strategies with Foundation priorities and growth goals
- Serve as a strategic advisor to Foundation leadership on donor communications, stewardship strategy, and engagement opportunities that strengthen philanthropic outcomes
- Help build a consistent and elevated donor experience across a complex, geographically distributed health system foundation
3. Donor Stewardship and Donor Relations
- Oversee strategies and practices that ensure donors are acknowledged, recognized, informed, and meaningfully engaged throughout their philanthropic journey
- Lead the design and continuous improvement of stewardship programs, reporting, recognition, and engagement experiences for donors across giving levels
- Partner with fundraising leaders to create tailored stewardship and engagement strategies for principal, major, campaign, regional, and system-wide donors
- Promote best practices in donor relations, stewardship, and personalized engagement across the Foundation
4. Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, coach, motivate, and develop a high-performing team of caregivers responsible for donor relations, stewardship, and philanthropy campaign communications, while fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and high-accountability culture grounded in professionalism, service, innovation, and shared success.
- Establish and communicate team priorities, goals, expectations, and performance standards, and ensure roles, responsibilities, workflows, and team structures are aligned with Foundation priorities and evolving organizational needs.
- Support team growth through mentorship, feedback, talent development, and effective workload management
5. Cross-Functional Partnership and Influence
- Partner effectively with peer Foundation leaders to support coordinated donor and campaign strategies, consistent messaging, and integrated philanthropic engagement
- Collaborate with executive leaders, clinicians, caregivers, regional teams, and other stakeholders to identify and elevate stories that clearly articulate impact, reinforce trust, support strategic philanthropic priorities, and inspire donor investment through effective donor communications.
- Represent the Foundation with professionalism, sound judgment, discretion, and executive presence in internal and external settings
6. Measurement, Quality, and Continuous Improvement
- Establish metrics and reporting practices to evaluate the effectiveness of donor communications, stewardship programs, and engagement strategies, using insights to continuously strengthen clarity, relevance, and impact across donor experiences.
- Use data, donor insights, and performance trends to refine approaches, improve outcomes, and support strategic decision-making
- Ensure high standards for accuracy, timeliness, quality control, and brand alignment across all materials and engagement activities
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business, healthcare administration, nonprofit management, or a closely related field
- Ten (10) or more years of progressive leadership experience in donor engagement, strategic communications, marketing, advancement, or a closely related field
- Five (5) or more years of experience leading multi-faceted teams within a complex organization
- Demonstrated success in donor engagement, stewardship, and donor-facing communications or marketing
- Exceptional communication, storytelling, and presentation skills, with the ability to translate strategic priorities into compelling donor messaging
- Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and change management capabilities
- Executive presence, sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to work effectively across diverse internal and external stakeholders
- Team oriented with motivational disposition
- Ability to travel as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience in healthcare philanthropy, hospital or health system foundations, academic medicine, or another large, mission-driven organization
- Experience leading donor relations and stewardship functions within a complex fundraising environment
- Experience supporting fundraising campaigns through strategic communications and donor engagement
- Familiarity with CRM data, donor insights, and audience segmentation to inform engagement strategies
- Relevant professional credential is preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
- Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
- For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles
This is an exempt, full-time position with a compensation range of $183,830 - $217,360, annually, and as determined by prior years of relevant experience. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.
