Job Description

The Museum of Modern Art seeks individuals to perform Simone Forti’s Dance Constructions (1960-61), on view February 2027.

Simone Forti (American, b. Italy 1935) began developing the pieces she eventually called Dance Constructions based on ordinary movement, chance, and simple objects like rope and plywood boards. First performed in 1960 at the Reuben Gallery in Soho, and then in Yoko Ono’s loft the following year, this suite of nine works explores the nature of social relationships – often directing performers to cooperate or collaborate to carry out a set of task-based instructions – and frames a connection between the sculptural object and the body in motion that prefigured many concerns of Minimalist sculpture. Dance Constructions entered MoMA’s collection in 2015.
